UPDATE 08/30/2018: I had contacted my Bank to get the transaction reversed but, because it was an authorized transaction, they wouldn't do it. I then went to the website for the theater and sent an e-mail through the "Contact Us" link there. I explained what happened and provided my e-mail and phone number. Within minutes I received a phone call from the Manager, Stephen. He was very apologetic and told me that what happened should never have happened. I described the young man who told me that I wouldn't get the tickets because the transaction was still pending and Stephen knew who he was (an Assistant Manager). Stephen said he would talk to the young man so this wouldn't happen again. Stephen said he would send me a refund and would include 2 passes. He asked that I go back on the website and send another e-mail through the "Contact Us" link with my mailing address, which I did. A couple of days later, I received the refund along with 2 movie passes, 2 free popcorn passes, and 2 free drinks passes. I am very happy with the responsiveness and outcome of this situation. Stephen did say not to order tickets online because the shows never sell out so it's better to pay for the tickets in person.
Whatever you do, DO NOT buy your tickets online. Here on vacation and woke up to pouring rain, thunder, and lightning so decided to go to a movie. I found this theater by searching for movie theaters on Google Maps. There is a link to their website on Google Maps. I put in all my information and waited for my e-mail confirmation, which I never received. Get to the theater and show the girl behind the counter the transaction on my checking account. She has a young guy look at it and I tell him I never got an e-mail confirmation. He proceeds to tell me that because the transaction is pending that I wouldn't get an e-mail confirmation until it went through. That's the biggest crock I've ever heard. I buy movie tickets online all the time when I'm home and have never had this issue. So, I ended up having to pay for 3 tickets AGAIN. I now have to wait for the transaction to post so I can get a refund from my Bank. Not very impressed with the theater either. Obvious water damage on the ceiling in Theater 3. It may be closer, but if you're staying in the Southport area, I would take a longer drive to a much nicer...
Read morePRO: One of the best theatre's I've been too!!! I love going to the Movies and have been to many theatre's all over the Country. The price for a Ticket are just right and the Concession are perfectly priced as well.
"Sadly, other Theatre's tend to price gouge people today to the detriment of the industry."
But at SURF CINEMA they still up hold the Quality and Respect for the industry of providing a visual entertainment for the family and friends. This Theatre is always my first choice when I want to see a Movie and I'm in the area.
CON: In all fairness the only negative things I could say is the badly designed main road system that was put in place has isolated the wonderful Little Theater a bit.(Not Their Fault) Also sometimes they don't get cert headline Movies and I am forced to go to another Theatre. I would love to see the ticket booth utilized more often especially on days with really good weather it would help with the congestion in the lobby that sometimes gets overwhelming between ticket sales and...
Read moreThis is a small theater in a small town. The prices are reasonable. Great movies come through here, but you are not going to find all the current top five movies playing at the same time; which works, because most small town families can't afford to go to the movies twice a week to see all those top movies anyway. The snacks are reasonably priced in comparison to bigger venues as well. The bathrooms are clean and that makes me much more comfortable with the entire business. I have lived in Southport almost exactly six months and just love this little theater. I came from Cincinnati where we only went to the movies about every 6 weeks because of the price and it was always filled with rude, hateful teens. I have yet to feel anything but welcomed and...
