I could Rave for days about the surprising quality of sushi and entrees at this location. It's certainly not their fault that the fish isn't exactly as fresh as fish could be. Fish is hard to transport, and despite that they still managed to serve fresh tasting, clean fish that is very delicious. Their Sushi is really just wonderful. And that saying something considering how far we are from the coast.
But I'm not going to spend too much time talking about the good, because there's so little for me to complain about and I want to really focus on that. This isn't somewhere that I would necessarily bring Young children, due to it being a smaller restaurant and sound carrying pretty easily, children tend to be loud and obnoxious. And I'll be completely Frank this is not McDonald's. If your children are the type that will run around or scream or cry, this is not a place for you to bring your kids. This is more of a date night place. All the staff here are so kind and so patient, so I am going to be the one to ask that you leave your kids at home. It's just that there have been few times that I have come here and there has been a respectful courteous family where the kids just sit and eat and enjoy time with their family. If I do come to this restaurant and there are kids there, nine times out of 10 they are probably the worst children that you have ever encountered. And you just end up wondering why the parents are just sitting there letting it happen.
Another thing that happens quite regularly that you can complain about and they will do something about, is occasionally I have gone in for lunch and there will be a man that is having a loud conversation on speakerphone with somebody on another line who doesn't work there he's just there to eat. But he just loiters there in the booth with his loud speakerphone blaring for everybody to hear. This is one of the times that I wish the staff would actually be rude and tell somebody to leave, because this is behavior by a customer that is so rude and disrespectful not only to the customers but to the people that own the restaurant. Genuinely how dare you assume that you have the right to take a call whether it's on speaker or not in the middle of a restaurant? So just so the Black Pearl staff know, I and everyone else are fully in support of you kicking out people that are being rude and obnoxious or refuse to get control of their kids. We're here to enjoy your delicious food, and you're wonderful atmosphere, and if kids or adults that want to take phone calls can't respect basic restaurant etiquette, we are in full support of you...
Read moreAfter reading a mix of good and not so good reviews we decided to try this place because the menu looked great! We love sushi so the variety was very appealing. We ordered lettuce wraps, general tso chicken, teriyaki chicken and a couple of sushi rolls. Everthing came out at the same time, which is kind of annoying when you order an appetizer, and it was out in less than 10 minutes so that was kind of a red flag. The sushi was the only thing that was edible but even that was not rolled very tight so they fell apart when you picked it up and they were just a little bland. They were mostly rice. The lettuce wraps were the worst. Even just looking at them, it looked like the meat was old and dry. We tried one bite each and spit it out. It tasted like it had been cooked several days before, left in the fridge and reheated. All of the chicken tasted like that. The sauce on the general tso was decent but again, the chicken tasted old and like it had been reheated. The teriyaki chicken had a ridiculous amount of pepper on it. That was the only thing I could taste. I took one bite and that was all. I was super disappointment having spend about $60 and the only thing I even ate was 1 sushi roll of mostly rice. The servers were nice but it felt like they knew we weren't happy because they avoided us and never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. They only came and asked if we needed a box when they saw all the uneaten food. I should have said something but didn't feel like I was really given the opportunity with them avoiding us and honestly I had lost my appetite and didn't want anything re made after all of that. There were also flies all over the food at that point. We definitely won't...
Read moreI travelled up to Logan for a night. For dinner, Stanley and I tried Black Pearl for the first time. The outside looked okay. Very tall ceilings and a clean, updated look.
There weren't many people there, so we were seated and served very quickly. We were given complimentary little chips along with a red dipping sauce. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and a combination plate.
The sushi rolls were okay. They weren't the best. There was quite a bit of rice and the roll was kind of small for one of them. The other roll we got was bigger, but there was this weird minty? sauce on it. I'm not too sure what it was, but just wasn't really too much to our liking. The combination plate came with fried rice, 2 egg rolls, and some meat. The fried rice was a little bland. I was actually expecting Vietnamese spring rolls because on their menu it said "spring rolls", but what came out were egg rolls instead, which I guess makes sense since it is a Chinese/Japanese restaurant. Maybe an adjustment to the menu would help a little for that mistake. The meat tasted the best out of everything we ordered. It was decently seasoned and there was enough to eat with the fried rice.
Overall, the service was decent. They came back to check on us and gave us more water. The food was not that good. The place was okay, wasn't the greatest either. I probably will not be coming back again, but everything overall was...
