TL/DR: Amazing cookies; average-tasting, expensive sandwiches.
The sandwich: I've been going to Kneaders for what, 15 years, although this was my first time getting a sandwich at the Logan location. I got a Classic Roast Beef on Asiago Cheese bread, minus the tomato. It gave me 700 calories and cost $11.22. That works out to ($11.22 / 700 calories * 100) = $1.60 per 100 calories, which qualifies as "yikes, that's REALLY expensive -- that's like Taco Bell expensive."
The bread was dry-ish and low on flavor and the roast beef was a bit sparse. The lettuce was crisp but mostly flavorless, although the onions were tasty. The mayonnaise was put on with a light touch. The cheese colored the flavor and texture in a positive way but was otherwise unnoticed, which is probably what cheese should do in a sandwich like this.
All in all, it was an OK sandwich; not one I'm likely to order again (especially given the cost). I might try the roast beef again with focaccia (which will work out to about ($11.22 / (360 + 2*400 = 1160) * 100) = $0.967 per 100 calories, although the protein-per-calorie is going to go down; we'll see if we can make up for it with protein powder).
And that's the thing: The sandwich cost $11.22; for that much, it should have been outstanding (or at least packed full of meat, which it wasn't). But it wasn't outstanding; it wasn't even close. For $10.42, I can go to Chipotle and get a chicken quesadilla (with fajita veggies, sour cream, rice and black beans) which is (imo) vastly more delicious, has about 1.7 times the protein (73g vs. 43g, although the quesadilla's protein-per-calorie is 5.6 while the sandwich I had today was 6.1 -- albeit far more expensive protein) and the quesadilla costs HALF AS MUCH per calorie. ($10.42 / 1300 calories * 100 = $0.80 per 100 calories)
Like I said, I'll try roast beef (or something similarly high protein-per-calories -- maybe ham) with focaccia and we'll see if it beats out, say, Noodles and Company for price/protein/calories, but for the most part I think Kneaders' sandwiches are a bust. (btw I've tried Kneaders' turkey before, many years ago; I didn't care for the 'chunks' of turkey. Let me know when you start to serve it deli-sliced, Kneaders. Also, my staple sandwich at other locations has always been pastrami on focaccia, but this location doesn't carry pastrami.)
The cookie: The chocolate chip cookie, on the other hand, was SUPER delicious. The chocolate in it is divine; I'd compare it to the chocolate in the shakes at Five Guys. Top notch. Well worth the $3.66, although I have no basis for that claim except that when I pay $3.66 for a cookie from Kneaders, I have no sense of buyer's remorse.
Cookies: Five stars, easily. Sandwiches: 3 stars for flavor, 1 star for price.
Btw I gave the "service" score a 2 because the girl who was working the drive-through window today was the same one who had given me grief the last time I came to the drive-through and only ordered a cookie, because I didn't order anything else. No need to judge people when they just want a cookie.
And I gave the "atmosphere" score a 4 because it nearly always smells like cinnamon rolls here, and that's a REALLY nice smell. (Aside from that, though, the interior at your typical Kneaders is folksy and plain -- although I've never been inside the Logan location -- and the drive-through at the Logan one is weirdly cramped.)
Kneaders' deserts are great; too bad the rest of the food isn't...
Read moreIt was like they decided to mess with me out off all freaking days! Everyone was so nice EXCEPT for the girl that worked drive through this morning. I called a head monday AND this morning right when they opened to make sure they had carrot cake (so this should be freaking easy for them). THEN I come in drive through and the lady was SO RUDE! I went home SOBBING! I asked for the carrot cake, she said they didnt have any and recommended other flavors (which was nice) BUT THEN I told her I called a head earlier, the girl that answered said she checked for me and they had some, THIS GIRL I SWEAAAAAAR she said “Well you must have called the wrong store because we have been working all day (it was 7:30) and we havent had one phone call”. THERE IS NOT ANOTHER KNEADERS NEAR US! And so I checked the phone number and even called it, it rang for the LONGEST time so who the heck knows what happened there.
SO I decided to try again at 4, I saw they where STOCKED with the cake (i was so happy wasnt gonna write a review) but then i saw the girl put in my bag a peppermint chocolate cake, which is whatever, a mistake who cares but it is very clear it isnt a carrot cake especially with the decor. I took out the cake and clarified with her in front of another employee if this was the carrot. She said yes, and the other employee just turned away (which is totally fine) but i was so exhausted of going back in forth with them all day for a stupid cake.
I will not hate on the food, it is 10/10 (if they have it in stock which is a hit or miss but i understand since they are popular) but will never go to the logan...
Read moreI really wanted to enjoy my experience at Kneaders today, I generally do, but this afternoon was honestly super disappointing.
I placed my order online and arrived at the estimated pick up time. I stood in line for about 10 minutes (not the end of the world, it's lunch rush and mostly out of their control- though they could have been staffed better).
After finally being able to talk to someone at the counter, they let me know that they were unexpectedly out of the loaf I'd ordered. Some kind of advanced notice while placing my order would have been helpful? Gal helping me told me I could pick another loaf from the selection they had. Y'all... It was super sparse. They had like half of their usual options available and it's only 1:00PM. I politely asked for a refund and she discussed this with her manager before I was told they would refund me that afternoon for the loaf. Cool, all's well.
I take my other food and head home. I'm starving by now, I take a bite of my sandwich only to realize my turkey BLT is missing... Bacon. Are you kidding me? That's one of the four main ingredients and why I'm paying dang near $12 for a sandwich. I was very sad.
I want to be clear- I understand some of this is out of their control but a lot of it was just inattentive and sloppy service. Not at all like what I've come to expect from this cafe. Normally my family enjoys Kneaders. The food and service are usually satisfactory, but today they really let me down and I want to warn others- NEVER order online at Kneaders and always check your food to make sure they got everything! You shouldn't have...
