I have ordered from this restaurant many, many times since it first opened. The first time, I was excited to see another Indian restaurant in the neighborhood as a counterpart to the one a few doors down that has been here for many years. I ordered the Lamb Korma and was SO blown away by the meal. The lamb was incredibly tender and juicy, the curry was delectable, and most importantly, the portion size was huge. I even had leftovers for the next day. Since that first day, I have ordered lamb korma every single time I've gotten food from here. At this point, I probably have had it 10-15 times. Unfortunately, the meat quality and consistency has not been reliable since my first few orders, which is so disappointing, because I've really have wanted to see this restaurant succeed just because my first experience was so positive. It seems like maybe the ownership, or at the very least the staff inside the place (and the kitchen), is changing a lot which could explain the lack of consistency. Today, my lamb korma kind of tasted like a tikka masala," the meat seemed like it has dried out a bit maybe from being refrigerated and reheated, and the palak paneer we ordered was way over-blended and very liquidy to the point that you can't really see any spinach anymore - just spinach color. Maybe that's just a recipe technique choice by the cook, so I can't really criticize. It tasted ok anyway. But also, the portion sizes have gone way down. This probably is a result of the changing economy though. I don't really know. I probably will continue to get food from here from time to time, but I hope they can take my feedback (as a loyal customer) constructively. Small businesses absolutely must succeed in this economy, so I just hope they can...
Read moreAbsolutely not a 4.7 star restaurant. It deserves about 3, which is "good", but definitely not 4.7, which would be really excellent. AFTER eating there, I went back to look at the reviews again and most of the 5 star reviews are from people with 1, 2 or 3 reviews in their history which makes me wonder if someone is gaming the system.
Anyway, it's a small and comfortable space with a large and interesting menu. The samosa chat was very good, but there's where the meal peaked. The palak paneer was nothing like the photo featured on the website. It was pale and not very heavy on spinach -- with eyes closed we never would have guessed it was palak paneer. The lamb vindaloo was okay, but tasted like it contained BBQ sauce. I've been eating Indian food, including vindaloos, for decades and this didn't have any of the traditional spicing -- again, it was good, but certainly not great. We also tried the kadai shrimp, which was okay, but the only clear flavor was bell peppers. The aloo paratha was scorched in spots and undercooked in other spots and contained only a trace of potato.
The food was all good, but in a blind tasting, I'm not sure we would have identified any of these dishes as what they were supposed to be, and maybe not even as Indian food. There may have been some recent staff changes..
The dining room was nearly empty on a Friday evening, but they were doing a big take-out business. I'd encourage people to support this and other locally owned businesses , but let's keep the reviews honest so as to set realistic...
Read moreVisited a couple weeks ago with family celebrating a cousin's birthday and this was his choice for Indian food. I noticed that the restaurant was empty but they did have a trickle of food take out. We all ordered something different like butter chicken, curry, biryani (goat and chicken), tandoori (seafood mixed and chicken) and vegetable samosas for the table. The service was fast enough being that it was empty,I wish they had some sort of alcohol, wine or even beer which they didn't. We all did soda and was surprised when I asked for some ice I was told they didn't have ice, how does a restaurant not have ice? All in all the food wasn't bad,the butter chicken was delicious and so was the naan bread but I've had a tad bit better samosas and tandoor. Biryani was meh, I took it home in the hopes of eating it and never did so that says a lot. Mint sauce tasted funny too, like acidic so don't know if that's the flavor or it was off.Its not a bad restaurant but it's not a restaurant I'm dying to...
