I had an LA Fitness membership since 2017, but I emailed the corporate office in March 2020 stating "Effective immediately, please cancel my membership." I called the NM branch but the building had just been closed during the height of COVID, so I couldn't come in person to cancel. The person who I spoke to in NM said since I couldn't come in person, my email would be enough and my membership would be canceled. I checked my bank account over the next few months, and I wasn't being charged, so I assumed my account was canceled. I realized 2 years later in March 2022 that LA Fitness did not cancel my membership like they told they would- I was being charged for the membership plus the kids club starting June 2020 until I called them in March 2022 to cancel. I was told several times that a manager was going to call me back, but no one ever did - I had to keep calling back myself. Supposedly Jose, the GM at NM LA Fitness was going to help me. He told me by phone that they had "no record" of my email and that a membership had to be canceled in person, no exceptions. He promised me the corporate office in LA would call me that day, but they didn't. The next morning, I found the email that I sent to corporate, and I wanted to show it to Jose - receptionist said he would call me right back. He didnt, and an hour later, he said he was very "busy" and had planned to call me back before the end of the work day when he had a chance. I drove over to NM LA Fitness to see him, and he asked me by phone not to come since he was so busy. I arrived and he was just sitting at his desk pretending to be busy. He's a young guy that looks like he just got got out of college, and he was very unprofessional and condescending. When I showed him the email I sent corporate, to which no one ever responded, he told me that since the building was closed at that time, "no one received that email. š š¤ Either this guy is a real moron and doesnt understandshow the internetworks, or he expected I was one to believe that. He insisted that it wasn't possible to close my account except in person. Although, he contradicted himself because I told him I want to sign the form to cancel my account right now, and he said, "oh no need - I canceled it for you yesterday by phone." I was furious. So they can close cases by phone or email it appears. I spoke to corporate, and they were just as unhelpful as Jose. I was told there was no way to cancel an account for the NM office (although other branches do allow email cancellations) except via email. I asked why no one responded to my email to tell me that - crickets. I asked why the receptionist at NM told me email would be fine considering the office was closed - no one knows. So they couldn't help me except redund 2 months out of the 2 years, something insulting. I filed a dispute w my credit card company, which btw was something that LA Fitness receptionist also recommended I try considering the circumstances, but my bank couldn't do much since it was so long ago. (I get online statements only for this credit card, and i didnt get any charges for the 3 months i did check, which apparently coincided with 3 months that LA Fitness did not charge anyone bc the building was closed; I have switched my credit card to paper billing now). And then LA Fitness had the AUDACITY to call me and ask for the payment of the amount that was currently being disputed with the credit card while the dispute was still ongoing with the bank! I cant even believe how unprofessional and appalling their customer service skills are!
The gym is also always overcrowded and you have to wait to use any equipment. They don't pay their teachers so they are not that good, the equipment is old and overused.

I recently went to see if this would be a better fit for my workout style which is multiple intervals meaning different exercises done in an order and repeated. First they waisted 40 minutes of my day off just showing me things i was looking at like saying "this is a bench". Im all about clean but none of the water fountains were clean they looked to be rusting or moldy as well as weak luke warm water flowing out.When i was finally able to workout i was not able to do my intervals what so ever. firstly there is no one cleaning up the weights at all they are just consistently being taken and left wherever all over the gym. I was looking for matching dumbbells for 10 minutes alone. Also with that problem comes the mess.. i don't care if they have people picking up trash and cleaning sweat stains i can easily do that myself what i cant pay attention to is when and where people just drop weights if you were to look at the Fall time when leaves are all over the ground that is exactly LA fitness weights area just with ankle breaking weights scattered throughout the gym. I even came back at 8pm to try again to see the crowd and it was the exact same situation just a cluster f* of lazy disrespectful people coming into the hype of working out and the weights area a total mess and people rushing you to use what your using.
Beside that huge downfall what really made me not want to support LA Fitness was a confrontation i saw the LA Fitness personal handle extremely badly and if it were me i would have made it to the morning news this offends me and puts such a bad taste in my mouth i cannot support. In the middle of my session i see them approach a man helping a women that was quite over weight but clearly trying to better herself but i soon saw she also only had 1 HAND and HE IS HER SON! they are confronted and told by LA fitness that this he was not allowed (and corporate was watching) to help his own MOTHER WITH 1 HAND rack a machine, fix the settings, etc pretty much he was not allowed to assist his own blood who only has 1 hand without himself as well working out in the process and if he doesnt stop they are going to revoke both of their memberships just like that. This is what im saying fake staff with false intentions! If a women is so disabled like missing a hand that she cant even fix the leg placement on a machine how do you expect her to even know what she is doing in the gym. Their only suggestion was to hire one of them for a price the mother and son could not afford. WHY IS THERE NOT SOMETHING IN PLACE FOR SOMEONE THAT IS SO HANDICAP THAT THEY RECEIVE HELP FROM A STAFF MEMEBER FOR NOTHING EXCEPT TO WANT TO SEE THEM BETTER THEMSELVES. Instead they use threats. I have a membership that allows me to bring two guest & today January 17th, 2024 I came in about 5 to 10 mins before my guest arrived and when they did I went to the front to scan them in & as I was going to scan my phone the worker in the front desk snatched the scanner away & says āno no thatās not how this worksā & slams some sign in my face.. I read it and it said if I wanted to bring guest I needed to walk in with them.. so I told him that I have guest privileges and that I just got there, I was trying to tell him I just wanted to be ready by the time they got here and he just kept cutting me off and saying heās the manager of that location and heās telling me I canāt do that. At this point Iām upset because thereās never been any sign up and heās going back and forth with me. My guest chimes in trying to deescalate the situation & he cuts her off saying āI donāt have any responsibility with you my responsibility is with her(me) thatās why Iām talking to herā .. no one responded to that. I continue asking him when that new rule was implemented because the sign had no date on it & I came the day before(& everyday before that) and did the same thing and I had no issues.. he replied with āoh then im going to fire that person because we donāt do thatā .. i was shocked but continued asking him questions.. there were people coming to check in and as im talking he ignores me to address the other guest meanwhile thereās another associate right besides him that can greet the guest while he handles the situation that weāre having.. but no each time a guest came in he would disregard me.. he was very rude.. I was asking questions trying to come to a resolution but all he said was āif you have a problem call corporateā not to mention he kept laughing everytime I spoke to him.. then he said āif you would have came with a better attitude I wouldāve let yall in but you came in like you run this placeā .. He as a manager should focus on making sure the facility is up to standards considering how disgusting the bathrooms always are.
