I a big fan of small old fashion diners and "mom and pop" restaurants and I have found alot throughout palm beach county in which I frequent for the good food and service. Today I decided to try a place I have never been before and took my family to Debra's Place. I have never wrote a bad review before but feel in very necessary in this case. Upon entering the restaurant it was very crowded which is typical of small diners so this did not bother me. However none of the customers were greeted and all were confused of what to do as there was no staff to organize seating. After 10 minutes of waiting, a server said in a agitated tone "First come, first served, just sit down somewhere". There were no tables currently available but a few tables that people just got up from and were not cleaned off. After about another 5 minutes the servers started cleaning off tables.
My family and I then sat in a booth. The table and benches were very filmy as if they were cleaned by a dirty rag and no cleaner. The wall had old pictures on it and the wall and pictures had food spatter on them. The decorations on the wall and other areas above eye level were covered in dust. The salt and pepper shakers were empty and other items on the table very dirty. The silverware had water spots and the New napkins on the table had pieces of food on them. The ceiling tiles are very old, yellowed and have water spots on them. The A/C grills were covered in dust.
The server we had smelled like cigarettes and was very rude, very short in snippy when she spoke and over all not nice person, very grouchy. She laid her pad of paper on our silverware to take our order and was very snippy towards my kids when they polity asked her a question about what they were ordering came with. Our drinks were empty for a long time before refilled and the food took a long time to come out. When our food was ready the server brought the first two plates to the table and slammed them on the table very rudely (I also observed her doing this to other customers she served). As the rest of the food came out I had a perfect view of the window from the kitchen to the dining room and saw my food placed in the window from the kitchen. There was a small plate with my toast on it and the server picked the toast off the plate with her bare hands and placed it on the plate with other food ( I am assuming she did this so she didn't have to make two trips or make it easier to carry the food to the table, however she could have just as easily picked up the plate and slid the toast off onto my plate instead of physically handling it.) When she put it on the table and I told her I would like new toast because she I saw her touch it and she just made a nasty face at me and walked away. Our drinks sat on the table...all empty and the server kept walking by and ignoring us. As I sat there I started watching the servers and their interaction with people. Almost all the servers had an attitude and were not nice to customers. As I observed the waitresses further, I watched them clean off tables of dirty dishes, handle money and go to the window and pick up food and move it around on plates and bring it to customers to eat. I am shocked to see more than one server put there hands on food. As I looked around some more, there was food all over the floor leading behind the bar and into the kitchen.
I just looked up the health department rating and it reports many violations in 2014 and has not been inspected in 2015 but in my opinion they need to shut the place down. I do not see how anyone would be allowed to serve food in a establishment that is so dirty and if the dining area is this dirty and this is what everybody can see, I can only imagine how the kitchen looks. I also don't see how the staff be allowed to operate with such poor food handling practices.
All in all, I will never return to this restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone. The places is filthy, staff is rude, unhygienic, untrained and the service is horrible. If the scale would allow me I would...
Read moreI've been visiting this restaurant occasionally over the last couple of years. It used to be a great "hole in the wall" spot for breakfast, offering good value for money. However, the place was sold and underwent some renovations, which led to a considerable increase in prices. Over time, the experience has gradually declined, but my visit today prompted me to leave this review.
My wife and I went on a busy Saturday morning at 10 a.m., but we were fortunate to find two spots at the bar. We received our coffee promptly and placed our food orders: two scrambled eggs with bacon and a Deb's omelet. Although it took about 20 minutes for our food to arrive, we weren't too concerned given the crowd. The scrambled eggs were good, and the omelet was slightly overcooked but still acceptable. However, both of our hash browns were undercooked and soft; my wife's were even cold.
We asked our waitress to reheat the hash browns. She said she would bring a plate to take them back to the kitchen. After 10 minutes, our hash browns had still not been collected. Eventually, the waitress remembered and took them back. Another 10-15 minutes passed, and by then, our remaining food had gone cold. A different waitress finally brought the hash browns back, apologizing and saying they couldn't make them hot and crispy at the moment. She offered us an alternative like home fries, but we declined and requested the check. After another 10-minute wait, we finally received our check.
Given these experiences, I'm not sure if we'll be returning...
Read moreMom and I went there after the dentist on Friday. We've driven by a hundred times but never had a coupon with us. Often they are in the Palm Beach coupon flyer for a great deal on breakfast, like but 1 get 1, etc.
Kind of looked like a place for locals and when we arrived all the tables were full, however the old Woolworths style diner bar seats were empty. We sat there and we were immediately greeted by the smiling waitress. She promptly cleaned a booth and Mom and I ordered the breakfast special. It was something like 2 eggs anyway, 1 sausage and 1 bacon, a HUGE pancake and included coffee! I think it was $9.95 and totally worth it.
My poached eggs were perfect, the pancake and syrup were flavorful and filling and the coffee was truly a treat. They have flavored creamers at the table if you French vanilla or hazelnut flavor in your Java.
The entire staff was wonderful and even said goodbye y'all when we were leaving the diner. Good was served really warm, coffee hot and flavorful medium roast
Looked like the serve breakfast and lunch only and have fault specials and posted at back of restaurant.
Plenty of tvs on the wall to keep an eye on sports or breaking news, etc.
Nothing negative. Would suggest a little deeper cleaning of the flooring, especially in corners.
We are coming back tomorrow Life...
