M J's Polish Deli — Restaurant in North Township

I had been craving my late grandmother’s cooking for several days. While taking a detour through Hammond I spotted MJ’s on Calumet Avenue and decided to drop in. I’m so glad I did!

The nice folks at MJ’s happened to have a batch of hot, fresh pierogi ready to eat. They were kind enough to package them up and I drove home eating possibly the best savory pierogi I’ve ever tasted (I don’t think my grandma would mind my saying so if she could taste these!) Between bites, I kept saying, “I can’t believe how good these are!”

It was a great, unexpected treat that really hit the spot for me. I will definitely make MJ’s a regular stop on my trips between Chicago...

This year we wanted to fully honor the Polish experience for Fat Tuesday and boy oh boy did we hit the jackpot! These pickles are DA BOMB, like you can eat them like chips, they're THAT good 😱🤩 I'm adding a picture of the mushroom pierogi case because those just FLEW off into satisfied mouths and what an honor for my brother and sister to witness them making this Pierogi art behind the scenes....loving Polish hands crafting a special homemade flavor is unmatched.

Just wanted to say, I love this place. The food is authentic and delicious. The house made potatoe salad and cabbage and noodles are soooo good. Don't get me started on the pierogi and smoked salmon, WOW! She usually has hot food available and makes fresh sandwiches. Everything is good. My family's flower shop is less than a block away so we eat lunch there regularly. My family gets the fresh polish sausage for every holiday. I could go on and on about the service and great people there. So many nice things to say....just go there and...
