Since day one, Familiars Cafe has blown me away with their greatness.
From the counter staff to the coffee, food and decor, this establishment gets 10’s across the board from me. I’ve worked in specialty coffee for several years and I’m a harsh critic when it comes to how espresso drinks are crafted and the overall cafe experience.
The owners Danny and Isaac are some of the sweetest folks I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. They are always present and do their best to insure that all patrons have a pleasant experience. Not only that, but they make a genuine effort to get to know their ‘familiars’, which is in my option, one of the most crucial components of maintaining a space like this.
The atmosphere is beautiful and comforting. It’s a great space to be in, whether you’re in and out for a quick pick-me-up or if you’re looking to post up and get some work done or meet with a friend.
I was impressed with the variety of drink and food options on their menu. There’s something for everyone, even if you have a dietary restriction.
This little gem of a space is something I’ve wanted to exist in Northampton for ages and I couldn’t be more...
Read moreJust stopped in with my family and 15 month old niece. Was super excited to try this fun local shop and had an excellent experience until an extremely rude and passive aggressive worker (purple hair and tattoos- beware. She hates children I think!) made us feel super unwelcome. My niece was holding a bag of coffee beans and accidentally dropped it on the floor (it was counter culture so nothing special mind you) and the worker rudely asked “Uhm, would you like us to grind those beans for you?” When we said no she rolled her eyes, made a face, and promptly came out from the counter to straighten up the bags right in front of us.
What the heck kind of place is passive aggressive toward adorable babies! For a place that screamed inclusivity with pride flags and an eclectic atmosphere they should make it known that the traditional family is not welcome. Do better Familiar Coffee! Maybe start with hiring nicer people that don’t hate kids :)
As for the coffee, it was fine. My chai latte could have been spicier and the pour...
Read moreI really love the atmosphere here and literally everything I have had has been delicious from lattes to cold brew even to iced tea. My favorite this is the Turkey Avo sandwich. Some may think $9 is a little pricey but I think it is well worth it. There is the perfect ratio of turkey (and not super thin or a fat slab of it), crispy bacon, cheese, mixed greens, avocado, and honey mustard on delicious seven grain bread. I will go out of my way to get this sandwich any day, and it even come with a little bag if chips as well which is nice. It is usually fairly quiet in there and even when it is busy and all of the tables are full it is not a loud and obnoxious busy and I can still get work done, and the outside seating is awesome as well. Dan has been at the front nearly every time I have been in and he is so super friendly which is awesome. Great place and a great addition to downtown Northampton, highly...
