Christine's Italian Pastry Shoppe — Restaurant in Northfield

So we went out of our way to Christine’s Pastry Shop. We were there to get our daughter a birthday cake. We picked out the only remaining vanilla birthday cake which had no decorations on it. There were the two employees and the store was empty besides my wife and myself. I asked if we could decorate the all vanilla birthday cake. I asked if she could write Happy Birthday in pink & blue? Without a smile she said NO just one color. Then I asked can you put some colorful flowers on the cake. Answer N0, only green color decoration of leafs or something. We were polite but wondered why the two people working in the empty shop couldn’t do a little better and make the cake more decorate or give us a friendly answer. Then to add insult to injury while the cake was being sparsely decorated, I said here’s my credit card, in which she responded unhappily , “we only take cash or check”, no smile. So we paid the cash. Was very disappointed with the vanilla and buttercream birthday cake purchased. The cake was all icing and one layer of cake, sliced in half to mimic the two layers of cake normally included in a double layer cake. The “cake” was 65% frosting and 35% cake. The icing was flavorful, but the cake itself tasted like a plain box cake. So disappointed. I thought that the cake would be delicious based on the reviews, but it was not a flavorful cake. I could’ve saved $40 by buying a mass produced cake at Sam’s Club and had similar flavor, while actually getting some cake.

Called the bakery to report the lack of cake in my $55 cake and was simply told, “That’s how we make our cakes.” Selling me 5 lbs of icing seems deceptive. Will not use this...

What an amazing experience with this bakery. I was a loyal minos bakery customer until they started making excuses why they couldn't make what seemed to be a simple mocha cake. Well I started calling around and Christine's said they could make it no problem. So I ordered and came to pick it up the next day. OMG it was stunning, it looked beautiful and smelled amazing. My wife got her birthday cake a few hours later and she couldn't believe how great it was. The flavor was outstanding ! It was such a great experience, I am now a forever loyal Christine's bakery customer. I haven't even started to say how great the staff is .......
