Our unpleasant experience two months ago deserves a factual narrative, keep reading.
I'm one of a party of eight people who came here for a simple meal. We had made a reservation, and our table was ready when we arrived. We were seated immediately.
When I first began to write these comments I had been seated for more than an hour and some of our party of eight people were still waiting for our food. I've updated this review later to correct details.
A party who came in after us were seated and finished their meals and left before our food was served.
As we sat waiting, I could see a steady stream of carry out pizzas and other carry-out orders going out the door. From where I sat, I could see part of the kitchen. I watched as many pizzas we're placed in boxes. It appeared that carry-out orders were being filled while we sat and waited for ours.
A young lady was constantly pacing and figiteng just inside the door. Her only apparent function was to open the door when a customer approached. Meanwhile, our server appeared to be frantically attempting to serve more tables than she could handle.
I ordered a Greek salad and a small pizza. The salad came out with no dressing after 20 minutes. I asked the server to bring the dressing and she said that the dressing was already on the salad. It wasn't. When she returned after another ten minutes I told her again that there was no dressing on my salad and asked her to bring me some. She told me that they didn't have any Greek dressing and offered ranch dressing. I asked what else was available and she offered Blu cheese. I asked if they had Italian dressing and she said no. An Italian restaurant doesn't have Italian salad dressing! I asked if she had balsamic vinaigrette and she brought a brown liquid that smelled and tasted like Heinz cider vinegar. It definitely wasn't even a low quality balsamic dressing.
One hour and ten minutes after I ordered a small pizza, right from the menu, nothing special, it came to the table. The bottom and edges of the crust we're burned and the crust was still gooey dough under the toppings. Worse than a frozen pizza baked in the oven at home. At the same time, the rest of our party we're also served.
After a while the server brought the checks. They were all wrong. Two more attempts, and the checks were still wrong. One of our party found a manager, and after some discussion, he told the server to give us everything at half price. It took her two more attempts to get that right.
When we left the restaurant two hours after we arrived a lot of uneaten food remained on the table.
I spoke with the manager as we were leaving, and he did offer apologies for the poor service, telling me that he didn't have any experienced employees and was training those that he had.

Read moreWhat was once our go to local pizzeria has sadly gone down hill. We hadn't gone in a few months, but that was enough time to dismantle the two things one loves most about a pizzeria, the atmosphere and the flavors. First, the Bianco. A "specialty" pie that boasts a beautiful white base, feta, kalamata olives, spinach and sundried tomatoes. The Bianco we remember was crisp and buttery on the bottom almost like a lovish cracker. This one had a rubbery bland crust, no detectable base sauce, and tomatoes/spinach that were probably fresh 2 months ago. The hickory barbeque pizza was missing ingredients and with sauce drizzled only on top? The biggest tragedy is the bread sticks. Once served soaked in a beautiful garlic butter sauce (even togo), the new breadsticks (now a different dough all together) are served with a bland garlic butter on the side with a marinara seemingly from a runny jar (Ragu perhaps?) rather than with fresh chunks of onion and tomato we've come to love. Hopefully this experience is a momentary blip in Impellizzeri's legacy as a great...
Read moreVisiting Louisville and continuing my search for the best pizza. This place claims they were voted best in KY so I didn't even question placing a big to-go order for the whole family. Looked at photos from Google reviews and the toppings and pizza looked great. Got my $120 worth of pizza home and opened the boxes. Looked nothing like the pictures of big chunks of sausage. Barely looked like there was anything other than pepperoni on what was supposed to be a meat pizza. Didn't even look like the same pizza at the photos others posted at all. So much so that I went back and checked like three times that I had actually ordered from the right place.
Pizza was OK, and that's being generous. The "garlic sauce" that came with the breadsticks literally had no taste. It was so weird we all kept tasting it trying to figure out what was going on. It was like tasteless liquid butter. Needless to say I was really disappointed. I was soooo looking forward to some great fresh pizza and it...
