🍜 Review: Lazy Sister – Tasty, Trendy, but Bring a Backup Snack If you're looking for a Chinese food spot that feels hip but still hits most of the flavor marks, Lazy Sister might just be your next foodie adventure. Just don’t show up starving or expecting leftovers.
Let’s start with the vibes — laid-back, kind of cool without trying too hard. A solid date-night or “let’s pretend we’re cultured and try something new” kind of place.
✅ The Good Stuff
The martini? Not so good. The New England Sea Hag IPA? A bold, bitter beauty. Great pick for IPA lovers. The Mongolian beef and General Tso’s chicken both delivered that sticky-sweet-salty satisfaction. Classic hits, done right. Pork fried rice was fluffy, savory, and not greasy — no complaints. The pan-fried pork dumplings? Golden outside, juicy inside. Little flavor bombs. Duck buns — delicious flavor, but… more like duck bites. I needed at least 3 more to feel emotionally fulfilled. 📉 The “Hmm” Stuff
Portion sizes lean toward minimalist. The duck buns in particular are tasty but leave you wondering if you just had an appetizer or a duck-themed prank. It’s a bit overpriced for what you get — especially if you’re coming in hungry or planning to share. 👀 Bottom Line: Everything we tried was genuinely good to great — there’s clear care in the cooking, and the flavors are there. But bring a friend with low expectations on portion size or prepare to hit up a second dinner spot after. 😅
Would I go back? Yeah. Would I recommend it? Also yeah — with a disclaimer.

Read moreWe have eaten at all the local restaurants that serve Szechuan food: Enchanted Szechuan, Lao Sze Chuan, Shu, and here. This restaurant is very cute, clean, plays great music, and the dish selection is vast and includes Szechuan, Cantonese, and Hunan dishes. We had the dan dan noodles, wontons in chili oil, cucumber and garlic, the crispy beef, a dry pot with fish, and the fortune cookie soft serve. Almost every dish was too salty, but particularly the dan dan noodles, which was a shame since the flavors were generally very good. Somekne at the table next to us ordered the Mapo Tofu (which I had been considering) and complained to the server that it was so salty it made his water taste salty.
The wontons are definitely hand-made, but the sauce was too sweet/sour. The cucumbers were delicious, refreshing and crisp: maybe my favorite dish of the meal. The dry hotpot fish was excellent: medium spicy was not overpowering but left a good heat. My spouse loved the crispy beef, but I found it to be cloyingly sweet and overly chewy and tough. The soft serve was lovely: it was a textural cross between soft serve and sorbet, with just a tiny tinge of lemon flavor, and pairs wonderfully with the crumbles of fortune cookie, though I wish there had been a higher ratio of cookie crumble to ice cream than there was.
If I had to pick a restaurant for authentic Szechuan food, I don't think it would be here: I'd head up to Lao Sze Chuan in Milford. For ambiance, a creative drink menu, good music and fun, I'd gladly return here ans keep trying more...
Read more. The menu offers a fantastic blend of Chinese-American classics, along with tantalizing Hunan and Sichuan specialties. We started with the Soup Dumplings, and they were perfection – delicate wrappers holding rich, flavorful broth and perfectly seasoned pork. The Dan Dan Noodles were another standout, with just the right amount of heat and a wonderful nutty flavor.
For our main courses, we dove into some of their "Enchanted Szechuan Favorites," a brilliant nod to the restaurant's predecessor. The Dry Pot Chicken was an absolute flavor explosion, with tender chicken and fresh vegetables tossed in an addictive, numbing Szechuan peppercorn sauce. And don't even get me started on the Peking Duck Buns – a truly sublime bite!
Beyond the incredible food, the cocktail program is creative and fun. The "Yuzual Suspects" cocktail was a refreshing and unique blend. And you absolutely cannot leave without trying the Fortune Cookie Soft Serve for dessert – it's a playful and delicious end to an unforgettable meal.
The service was impeccable – attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making us feel completely at ease. Lazy Sister truly lives up to its name in the best way possible, encouraging you to "get lazy" and let them take care of everything. It's the perfect spot for a date night, a gathering with friends, or simply when you want to treat yourself to exceptional Chinese cuisine in a wonderfully stylish setting. We can't...
