We found this great place @himalaya_sono, near our hotel in South Norwalk, CT. Turns out they had just recently opened. But you wouldn't know it because everything--the space, the food, the service, the vibe--was excellent. Everyone was friendly. The design and decor of the place are very tasteful and well executed. We particularly liked the paintings done by Buddhist monks and the TVs over the bar showing gorgeous scenes of Nepal, which we added to our bucket list by the end of dinner. 🇳🇵 The place overall just has a really good vibe. They have a separate vegan menu upon request, which I always really appreciate. There's a gluten free one too, if you need that. There were plenty of vegan options. We got the chana masala and some vegetables, both of which were very good. The food tasted very fresh and natural. If you're sensitive to spicy food, err on the side of caution with your spice level. We like spicy food but even level 5 was pretty spicy for us (but we liked it). They also have live music several nights a week. It's something different each night and all looked interesting. It was quite good the night we were there. Dinner and music makes for a nice outing! There's also a full bar if you want to keep hanging out. It looks like there will be a patio in summer too. Finally, there's a little store at the front with some really nice items from Nepal. It sounds like it's better to check that out during the day, but it's definitely worth a look. Overall, this was one of the best executed concepts I've seen in a while, and I think probably the nicest Himalayan or Indian restaurant I've ever been to. I can't even fully explain why, we just really liked it! Will be back for sure anytime we're in the area. And if you're in the area, definitely check it out! You won't regret it and you might find yourself planning a trip to Nepal!

If you're looking for a dining experience that tantalizes your taste buds and warms your heart, look no further than Himalaya Sono. This gem nestled in the heart of SONO is nothing short of extraordinary. Atmosphere: The moment you step inside, you're enveloped by a charming ambiance that perfectly balances elegance and comfort. Soft lighting and tasteful decor. Service: The service here is impeccable. Our server was not only knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about the menu. They took the time to explain each dish's ingredients and origin, which added a personal touch to our meal. The owner Anthony was very friendly and explained his background and the Nepali culture. Food: Now, let's talk about the star of the show -- the NAAN!! The Himalayan NAAN and Garlic NAAN is to die for!!! SO DELICIOUS!! Airy and fluffy!! I tried the Beef Chili/Veg Pakoda/Lasooni Govi for appetizers. Amazing suggestions by the owner Anthony. For our main, we had the Lamb Makhini/Beef Curry (Med Spicy had good heat), Tadka Dal (Most amazing lentils). The combination of exquisite food, attentive service, and a beautiful atmosphere makes it one of the best dining spots in town!! I am already planning my next visit!!

I am a South Norwalk native and I literally live down the street from this restaurant and I can say that I come here all the time now and I even got my friends to come here on a weekly basis. The food here is amazing. I've been craving something with more spice in the area and Himalaya SoNo filled that niche. My partner and I met the owner Anthony and I can say that he is a very kind hardworking man that is very involved in his business. He and his staff explained everything that we needed to know and answered all of our questions in regards to the food and menu as my partner and I are not Nepalese. The music and the atmosphere is very calm and relaxing, which is a rarity for restaurants. If you are unsure of coming here then I can tell you that you're missing out on such an amazing experience. (P.S. To all those negative reviewers that are calling this "overwhelming due to its combined Nepalese and Indian menu" or anything of the sort, please go back to eating your unseasoned great despression era safe foods. Why would you go to this kind of restaurant then complain about its menu? Lol? Go eat a boring salad with stale croutons.)

I am new to Nepal food, but I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed. My curiosity brought me to think, what will make this any different then any other Asian cuisine I’ve experienced… Himalaya Sono gives me the feel of being in Nepal—from the moment you enter the restaurant, you’re wowed by the beautiful artisan in architecture, atmosphere (including the live music) and the both tribal, and contemporary are that subtly embrace the walls of the Nepal palace.

Moving to the food—I am a huge (self-proclaimed) foodie, but I would pride myself in the strength, versatility and ability my palate possesses, as well as the seriousness I put in food due to what it can do to a human, physically and emotionally (psychologically).

Flavor profiles were so challenging—I’ve never had the mix of such explosive flavors from all natural ingredients in which you can taste through the residual from a bite off the spoon and the texture of each vegetable and spice, and how it’s manipulated by the heat.

Although I eat once a day, for the most part, I eat for two humans (lost 200+ lbs). Yes it’s a lot, but this is besides the point (it’s veggies); the point is that I couldn’t finish my food. Not only was the food quality top tier, but the portion sizes keep me keeping these guys as my first resort for takeout.

If you’re looking for a new go to spot with options for the whole family, definitely check out...
