We found this great place @himalaya_sono, near our hotel in South Norwalk, CT. Turns out they had just recently opened. But you wouldn't know it because everything--the space, the food, the service, the vibe--was excellent. Everyone was friendly. The design and decor of the place are very tasteful and well executed. We particularly liked the paintings done by Buddhist monks and the TVs over the bar showing gorgeous scenes of Nepal, which we added to our bucket list by the end of dinner. 🇳🇵 The place overall just has a really good vibe. They have a separate vegan menu upon request, which I always really appreciate. There's a gluten free one too, if you need that. There were plenty of vegan options. We got the chana masala and some vegetables, both of which were very good. The food tasted very fresh and natural. If you're sensitive to spicy food, err on the side of caution with your spice level. We like spicy food but even level 5 was pretty spicy for us (but we liked it). They also have live music several nights a week. It's something different each night and all looked interesting. It was quite good the night we were there. Dinner and music makes for a nice outing! There's also a full bar if you want to keep hanging out. It looks like there will be a patio in summer too. Finally, there's a little store at the front with some really nice items from Nepal. It sounds like it's better to check that out during the day, but it's definitely worth a look. Overall, this was one of the best executed concepts I've seen in a while, and I think probably the nicest Himalayan or Indian restaurant I've ever been to. I can't even fully explain why, we just really liked it! Will be back for sure anytime we're in the area. And if you're in the area, definitely check it out! You won't regret it and you might find yourself planning a...
Read moreI am new to Nepal food, but I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed. My curiosity brought me to think, what will make this any different then any other Asian cuisine I’ve experienced… Himalaya Sono gives me the feel of being in Nepal—from the moment you enter the restaurant, you’re wowed by the beautiful artisan in architecture, atmosphere (including the live music) and the both tribal, and contemporary are that subtly embrace the walls of the Nepal palace.
Moving to the food—I am a huge (self-proclaimed) foodie, but I would pride myself in the strength, versatility and ability my palate possesses, as well as the seriousness I put in food due to what it can do to a human, physically and emotionally (psychologically).
Flavor profiles were so challenging—I’ve never had the mix of such explosive flavors from all natural ingredients in which you can taste through the residual from a bite off the spoon and the texture of each vegetable and spice, and how it’s manipulated by the heat.
Although I eat once a day, for the most part, I eat for two humans (lost 200+ lbs). Yes it’s a lot, but this is besides the point (it’s veggies); the point is that I couldn’t finish my food. Not only was the food quality top tier, but the portion sizes keep me keeping these guys as my first resort for takeout.
If you’re looking for a new go to spot with options for the whole family, definitely check out...
