Despite living in New London, I very seldom find myself in Norwich, so after spending a whole day in the area, my wife, some friends, and I decided we need to find somewhere to eat. I was sold on 36 Town Grill by the forest Google review which started "surprisingly good..." and totally agree after going there. The place may have the worst curb appeal of any restaurant I've seen: tucked along a long blank wall between a Stop & Shop and a number of empty store fronts, I would have missed it if I wasn't looking for it. But walking in you can tell that this place isn't a secret, roughly half full early on a Saturday evening. The menu is over filled with signature dishes, so we figured we would have to try some. My wife swore the liver and onions was the best she's had (I'll take her word on that) and my friends' steak and sandwich looked amazing, we also got the mussels special and nachos for an app, both were on point. I decided to splurge and go with the Seafood Bomb special, basically a lobster and shrimp bisque in a sourdough bowl. The quality is what really impressed me. The bisque had a good sweet and creamy consistency with notes of sherry and balanced the savory of the shellfish, the lobster meat was fresh and consisted of nearly a whole lobster, the shrimp was deveined and not overcooked, and despite being soaked in bisque one could tell the bread was fresh baked. While the cholesterol and caloric intake was enough to shorten days off my life, it was well worth it. I highly recommend it! As the saying goes, never judge a book...

Went first time Sunday for mother in laws birthday not impressed!the waitress Leslie I believe there for 9 yr.and full of her self. Trying to sugar coat awful meal experience. First got mushrooms appetizer. No taste no seafood stuffing, cold I asked for fried scallops. I was told waitress said had small scallops. They were large and 30.00 price not listed .I don't like order highest price item.the mushroom was with lemon.but none of our seafood meals.motherin law got hot buttered lobster roll.it was cold and had soggy buttery lettuce.so she ate lobster only.she not complain. But comment not like. I never ordered or heard of lettuce on hot buttered lobster roll?ya,yuk!and my salad came with my meal .I like while I wait for my meal.and normally how served.all our food was cold.seems we did wait slightly longer than Leslie's other customers.so got bill,156.00 for 4 of us to eat very disappointing..as price never mentioned or displayed for scallops. Whole meal cold ,mushroom tasteless. I can't even say was happy and got my money's worth.that fell short also!the confident full of herself waitress said see you next time as left a tip of misleading to have deserved it by mother-in-law.not what I would have left!tip clearly speaks my thoughts of what I thought of meal, when I dine just our family.i wolnt be back.everything was less than satosfactry,a disapointment.scallops large not crunchy fried 59 bucks for two of those.I didn't mention not busy at all a total if about 3 tables being served!Ido...

Small restaurant/ bar in a strip mall. Liked the art on the walls but it was a little on the dark side lighting wise. Service was very good. Attentive and fairly quick. Waitresses seemed friendly and nice.

This place got many good to great reviews. There was a pretty good crowd of people for a lunchtime so obviously popular. The food was really only barely okay.

Their clam chowder was thick like paste and very light on clams and potatoes and I'm going to guess reheated. The meat entree was over salted. The potatoes and vegetables that came with my entree had a weird off flavor. Again maybe stored in a refrigerator uncovered so absorbed some weird flavors and then reheated. My friend ordered a burger and was not impressed. If you can't make a great, delicious tasting, fresh burger, you are in trouble. And her sweet potato fries were soft and mushy, not crispy and not well seasoned.

I wanted to really like this place after reading the reviews but do need to say I was really disappointed with the food. Maybe they were having an off...

So this place was recommended to me, and I just had to give it a shot. Don't be fooled by the fact it shares a building with a stop n shop and dress barn. It's actually quite nice and modern inside, with a cozy family feel. I expected your run of the mill American fare, but their menu was "just enough". Meaning, they had everything, but just limited enough to where the chefs can give your food the proper attention. Our server, Erin, was absolutely fantastic, and PATIENT bless her heart. It took a while to decide because everything looked so damn good. The French onion soup was loaded and exactly as it should have been. My chicken teriyaki was perfection, as well as the apple crisp. I wanted to marry it. My only small complaint is that some of the rice was slightly overcooked like it had been sitting in the pan too long. But it's not a deterrent. We'll definitely be going back. Here's a pic of my apple magic after I already dug in. Worth it.

First time visiting 36 last night after a long day and an intense workout at the gym. Carb conscious, ordered steak and asked for broccoli and sauteed mushrooms and onions. I asked for bleu cheese on the NY strip. I was BLOWN AWAY how perfectly cooked my meal was. The steak was massive, impeccably seared and medium rare as I asked. Generous portion. My broccoli had garlic butter and shaved parmesan. Seriously, $21 for this. I could only eat half. So two steak dinners for $21. Husband had the French dip and sweet potato fries. His food was equally excellent. Service was attentive and friendly. We will definitely be coming back, as they were willing to accommodate my diet requests and went above and beyond to deliver. Do not let the unassuming appearance in a strip mall fool you as it did us the last couple years. Wish we visited sooner. Thank you.
