Best East Asian restaurant in Norwood by far. Have eaten here several times so far so here's my take. Background - I am extremely picky about restaurants since many like to skimp out on ingredients.
Have had several sushi rolls, chicken dishes and rice. Everything is 10/10. The Sushi is ALWAYS rolled when ordered and you can see them rolling it, so you know they are clean/hygienic people. Fish tastes high quality. They have been consistent every time I've ordered; always know what I'm getting.
The meat/poultry they use is actually real, quality meat. If you order a chicken dish you are getting thick pieces of chicken. The kind I would buy in the grocery store and cook for myself. Vegetables have always been cooked perfectly for my tastes.
When you order, the food can take a bit of time since 1) they are still relatively new and working on scaling (although wait times have gotten way better during busy hours in the past few weeks), and are usually super busy because the food is bomb and 2) they are cooking you real food WHEN you order it, not that garbage thinly sliced mystery meat I find at many restaurants that I don't return to.
The owner is also very friendly and you will see her there all the time.
Haven't tried the Ramen yet but my friends rave about it, so that's the next thing I'll try.
So bottom line; If you value high quality food/ingredients , don't mind perhaps a little bit of a wait ( friday/saturday nights) then this is your place. the food speaks for itself, thank you guys its about time norwood had a good...
Read moreI’m giving this place one star because it doesn’t give me the option to leave it blank. If it was up to me they wouldn’t get any stars. Customer service is key when running a business and the workers here have failed me. I ordered my food online which was a hassle from the jump with the hidden service fees. When I arrived I had asked for some yum yum sauce n they proceeded to tell me how the sauce is $4 and how they don’t usually give it out. They gave me attitude for wanting the sauce but I still paid and left. When I attempted to eat my food, I bit down into an eggshell. An eggshell in my rice. I was beyond upset and disgusted. The chicken in my hibachi meal was rubbery and flavorless. I was highly disappointed in the meal and the behavior of the employees. I ended up going back to get a refund and the first thing they asked for was the $4 sauce back. I’m confused are they going to reuse the sauce ? I definitely used some of it but the way they stressed how expensive it is to them and how they preserve it, I’m pretty sure they simply want to reuse it. After handing over the sauce to the employee she then decided to throw my refund at me. Refused to place my money back in my hand. I will never come back. And I hope they start treating people...
Read moreTo the many unsophisticated palettes who have posted raving reviews and believing this is actually a Japanese restaurant, let's dispel some myths. The ramen here is lukewarm, bland, and a shameful Chinese knockoff. The dining area is filled with flies and one landed on my server's forehead while she was taking my order (imagine what it's like in the kitchen).
Mizuya serves a purpose. It is capitalizing on the fact that authentic Japanese ramen shops are all concentrated in Allston and Chinatown and there is a food desert of Japanese cuisine in the South Shore. It is dead during lunchtime and a drinking well for locals who wish to hold karaoke nights on Tuesdays. It is NOT an authentic Japanese restaurant and it makes no attempts to be one. The name doesn't even make sense. The literal translation for "mizuya" is "water room," an attachment to a Japanese tea house where traditional Japanese tea ceremonies take place.
Authentic Japanese restaurants take too much pride to allow flies to roam in the dining area that you have to swat away while you eat. They do not hold karaoke nights. They don't serve scorpion bowls. Mizuya is as much Chinese as The China in Quincy and Cathay Center...
