I love Mexican food and I do not live in the Novi area, but I happened to be in town for an event, so when I saw the great rating, I could not wait to check this place out. I am very glad I was already in the area and did not go out of my way to eat here. While it seemed like it might be authentic (which is what I was looking for) or at least good, what we ordered was not. I ordered the Burrito Express (14’ flour tortilla with your choice of meat, topped with melted cheese dip, served with rice and beans) based on the pictures on Yelp and I was sadly disappointed. Nowhere on the menu did it say it was loaded with tomatoes or I would have asked for it without. You also cannot tell from the picture that there are tomatoes in it; it actually looks like there is rice on the inside, but that was not the case. Also, the cheese sauce was not good at all to me…it tasted like something you buy in a jar at a gas station. My mom ordered the chile rellano which she said was pretty flavorless until she added salsa to it (which she liked). Also, the restaurant was very dirty. We sat at the only clean table (some had not been bused and one had the busing tray sitting on it) and when we left, an employee was squatting in front of the open cooler eating, so we had to walk around her to leave. The high rating completely baffles me as this was the worst Mexican restaurant I have dined…maybe there are not many in the area so the expectations...
Read moreMy biggest complaint: They charge an extra 4% for using credit/debit card instead of cash, and this information isn't posted or provided by staff. Ironically, I only learned about this charge because they print it on the receipt... which you receive AFTER the payment has gone through. This is underhanded, and since every card processor I'm aware of only takes a maximum of 2.5% as a processing fee, it certainly looks like this place is using it to make an extra profit instead of simply raising their menu prices. That's dishonest and sneaky, and I do not appreciate it.
The food was 'fine', or one small step below it. We got two burritos, both of which were wrapped so loosely that they fell open when we picked them up. After shoveling the filling back into the tortillas with our hands and re-wrapping them tighter, it wound up not making a difference because both were so wet (sauce, juice, grease-- I'm not sure) that the tortillas soaked through and fell apart about halfway through anyway. They tasted fine, but nothing else about the experience would make me want to go back, especially with their prices higher than most strip-mall carryout spots (local Mexican/Central American businesses,...
Read moreJust stopped at a little Mexican restaurant to grab a quick lunch with my daughter. We were the 1st customers for the lunch crowd. The waitress was sitting down folding napkins and silverware. She looked at us and never responded. A gentleman and his coworker came in after us (Caucasian, but shouldn't matter).
She went to their table first with water, chips, etc., and took their orders.
That already made me angry. My daughter didn't want me to say anything. The waitress asked us what did we want to drink, but walked away as I told her we were ready to order. I also informed her that we were their first customers.
She dismissed me and walked away. She was not friendly at all. (This was our 2nd time here, our first time was a to go order).
We cancelled the order and I spoke with the manager (who was always nice). I explained what happened and told her that we would not be back. She profusely apologized. The waitress laughed in the background.
I knew that I was right. I will not be disrespected, nor spend money in an establishment that didn't value me as a customer.
We will take our business downtown where the food and service...
