Stephanie's BBQ III — Restaurant in Nutley

I have been a customer of this location for the last 8 years, at minimum, and it has been on the decline for at least the last 3 of those years. Their fries are often cooked in old grease, and they are incredibly stingy with their portions of barbecue chicken. To make matters worse, the very few pieces of chicken that you actually receive barely have any meat on them. There is absolutely no reason for me to have ordered a full portion of chicken yet feel like i barely consumed any food afterward. I know that times are rough economically, but if you can’t afford to give adequate portions to your customers yet are increasing your prices, maybe the food business just isn’t for you. Truthfully, the only reason that I even order from this place is because I live less than a mile away. I will be taking the drive to The Pit in Bloomfield for future barbecue cravings. Their portions are adequate, they are more reasonably priced, the quality is better, and most importantly, i have never felt nearly as dissatisfied by them as I am with today’s visit to Stephanie’s. I ordered a combo that equaled up to $30.67 that I thought would feed me and my family, and when I got it, the majority of the food was just fries. There was barely any rice, barely any protein and when I called they were rude to me about it like THEY were the ones that got the order instead of me. We usually pay $23 for a combo and it always has more than enough, but all of the sudden we paid more and got LESS! and on top of that, the lady on the phone said we’ll give you a refund but you’ll get your money back in 48 hours and we have TO TAKE THE FOOD BACK!!!! mind you we have a family to feed and she knew this and didn’t care. Never ordering here again, ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK! 4.1 stars is not worth it for a spot that barely gives food and gives attitude when a customer points it out. This was one of my favorite places. Never making this mistake again.

I've been going to this place since they opened here in Nutley. I usually do take-out except for a few times when I dined-in with friends and/or family. Their BBQ is flavorful, but my favorite is their House Special Cod Fish.

Today I ordered my favorite dish and an older lady took my order. That was the first time I saw her there. I would like to mention that this lady looked very good natured and she was very generous with her smile. Altogether, she imbued a very comforting and welcoming attitude which, sadly, was lacking at this place. I used to give them the benefit that maybe they're just tired. However, today, I was pleasantly surprised at this lady and she made me feel good. What a big difference!

Foodwise, I can't complain. I love their food and will go back there, but I want to see a more welcoming attitude from the staff. Only then will I give...
