Bullet Points: great food, great parking, great sauces, great staff, great experience, highly recommend this downhome cooking kind of place!
Amazing little spot, parking is great, easy to get to. Service is friendly and quick, welcoming, helpful, and the food is out of this world! We explained we had to rush to catch a (long) flight, and the host and server helped us not only get lunch quickly, but we were able to enjoy the tasty meal, at a table, sitting down in the restaurant and have refills on the refreshing iced tea!
The pork sandwiches were just right, moist but not drippy, lean but not dry. Fries were hot and crisp, not dried nor burned and not soggy, macaroni salad was generously portioned and comfort-food familiar.
Due to the hurry we were in, we ordered what we estimated to be the ready-to-serve food, and it came out quickly. Don't think because it was so readily served that it lost any taste or appeal, it didn't! And the sauces were wonderful. We were pressed for time, I may have mentioned that, but I made sure to try all six bar-b-que sauces, Hawaiian, Southwest Texas, Memphis, Savannah, Kansas City, and Eastern Carolina, during our stop. Each one had a unique taste and consistent with the areas they represented, as far as I could tell. I had never tried Kansas City BBQ and found it may have become one if the top contenders. SW Texas sauce had a hint of cumin, the sweetness in the Hawaiian, and ....well, you'll just have to try them yourself and find your favorite!
The atmosphere is true bbq-style restaurant, saw several families eating here, kids with soccer cleats, babies, some grandparents, groups of friends, a couple at the bar, indoor and outdoor seating. Had all the makings of a place I would be a regular at, if it weren't so far from home.
One last note, the staff worked with us to help us get fed and get going. Their graciousness and kindness cannot be overemphasized. Our server, I think I remember her name as Sabrina, was stellar assisting us in ordering, anticipating our needs, hustling like she was the one with the flight to catch. She was not inconvenienced nor impatient with our circumstance, but treated us well. She was an amazing server, and because of her we were well fed and richly blessed in our last escapade on Oahu.
Dixie Grill, thank you! Keep up the...
Read moreWent here with a big group (8 people) on a Saturday night. It took a few minutes to get seated (of course), so while we waited we got a beer from the bar. The bartender asked each person that would be drinking for their ID, which I am fine with but some people really seamed to not like it. They have a beer special going on in Sept which gave a beer that was decent quality for only $3.5, which is a great way to start off in my book.
After we got seated our waitress was excellent and got everything we ordered too us, drink appetizers and all, very quickly throughout the whole meal and was extremely nice.
We got an appetizer of the pickle chips, which were very good and had a nice spice to them. For the main meal, I got the ball buster which was burger with mac and cheese on it. The burger was very good. The mac and cheese was good without squishing all over your hands as you ate it. The burger was cooked well, but the quality of the beef was nothing special. The buns on the other hand, were terrific. The fries were pretty good, thicker cut, but they weren't all that crispy.
After we ate we went upstairs to the bar/club. When I walked in, I wasn't expecting all that much because there weren't that many people and it was a little dark and boring looking. Then I went to sit down and found some giant Jenga, which I haven't seen since college in Virginia. My friends and I drank and played Jenga for hours. They also had shuffle board and a second giant Jenga.
As for the rest of the bar, after an hour the place really started to pick up. People started to come in and also go out on the dance floor. It is the best bar/club that I have been to during my time in Hawaii. We ended up staying until 1am.
Overall, the bar/club and the service was terrific. The food was pretty good, but certainly not as good as you would get in the south, but to ask that of Hawaii would be a...
Read moreSo, I was a regular of this location since a child. To think in 2025 I don’t feel safe to step foot in the establishment if assistant gm IVORY is there. She lacks compassion and respect for customers. This lady kept provoking me and making comments and yell out-loud for me to pay my bill. All this because I have crab shells in my crab cobb salad. Any place else would have refunded it ….not her!!! Ivory said to me it’s not like it’s a nail or piece of hair. The server was great I had her several times and eddie was great as well. It’s ashamed when the employees told me sorry for IVORY’s behavior. She was waving her hands and twisting her body in my face, I asked her to stop she said no because she was mad. I told her how unprofessional she was. Not to mention she was sitting at the bar pretty much the whole time I was there. It got to the point where I lost my cool after about 20 mins or so of taking her behavior!!! She has NO ALOHA at all. She also snatch are receipt from the table and crumpled it up while walking passed other guess making several scenes before I made one. A person like this shouldn’t work in a restaurant if they can’t handle multi tasking, customers or employees. Her face from the beginning was annoyed even when the server got her from sitting at the bar. She threatened me with cops after starting everything. I told her I am from Hawaii we don’t act like that take that to the mainland and if she wants to speak to me I am outside. She will keep going and going and hopefully there is corrective action. May the force be with this restaurant because this was unacceptable!!!! My other half never seen me out of character until this night!! Ty to all the other amazing workers there. Gm Andrew was amazing!!! I will only be comfortable there on...
