I'm 58 years old with lots grey in my hair. Doorman acknowledged that there was no way I was under the legal age to consume liquor. I was a passenger in the car that took us there - so no reason to have my drivers license on me. Was with my Sugar Mama who was paying my cover charge too :) Paid cash no cc needed or taken. Sugar Mamas buying drinks. I don't think on my drive from Ewa Beach to Aiea that I might get stopped and deported. So no reasonable need for a valid ID on me. But when I get to the door - I'm greeted by a very polite doorman who shows a sign that reads...'must have a valid ID (ALL CAPS) NO EXCEPTIONS' Two of our friends are already inside - so I drive all the way back to Ewa Beach to get my VALID ID, drive all the way back to this place to show I was born in 1967 or that I'm actually who I'am - not sure what the purpose was, other then that is what the sign stated. Now before I left, I did ask if a manager could be called over, and was told that they would not make an exception. Now I would really feel complimented if in any way shape or form at age 58 I can be confused with someone below the age of 21. But I would bet a million dollars no reasonable human being would look at me and call me underage. From google search and AI response... It is required by law that any establishment with a liquor license on Oahu verify that you are 21 or older to consume or purchase liquor. And I could be wrong - but there is no law requiring patrons to have a valid ID. It's is strictly the bars policy. Whoever the decision makers may be .... please, please stop demeaning the intelligence of your staff to determine if a 58 year old is a minor or not by 'requiring' a valid ID. Now I get it - I could have chose to just go home. But Whiskey Dix could have chosen not to have such a terrible black and white policy. Food is great, service is great, security, bartenders, DJ and line dance instructors - all awesome!!! Just one tiny request... Let your front door staff have some autonomy to make a call that an old fart like me is of age. My lesson is that in case I drive across a US Boarder on ge way to Aiea - or want to do line dancing at Whiskey Dix, I need to bring 'A valid ID - NO EXCEPTIONS' :)
Hey if I'm wrong on the requirements of the Hawaii Revised Statutes on 'Requiring a valid ID to enter a bar on Oahu 'NO EXCEPTIONS' be happy to update this review. Oh wait - but that would be an exception :)
6-26-25 Five Star Update:
Happy to report the the powers that be are super accommodating people and that - if your an old fart like me and forgot your ID in Ewa Beach you can call a manager over or ask a reasonable deductive door man to agree that you are in fact an 'Old Fart' and are welcome to line dance the night away. Thank you for your caring response - my...
Read moreWent with a group of guys and girls. Dance floor is small. Cover for the guys was 5 bucks. The staff wasn't friendly at all. The most messed up thing about this place is they don’t have free water. I’m pretty sure it’s illegal not to have free water at a place that serves alcohol. I went up after a dance to the bartender for some water and she said I had to pay and keep using that cup. I paid got the cup and then as soon as I went in for another dance the cup was thrown away by I assume the staff. Went to go ask for some water and was told i gotta buy another drink for water. Saw a review that said a similar thing about the staff taking drinks and they responded saying they will do a drink on them if that happens. That’s a load of crap. I wasn’t the only one thirsty because I saw a girl there drinking from a water bucket (you can only drink from it if u buy a drink from the bar and hold onto that cup for dear life) and one of the staff started yelling at her for water falling from the bucket. She told them she asked for water and they denied are because she needed to buy a drink. The staff was so rude for her for just trying to find a way to get water I felt bad. I also saw that same staff member yell at two dudes because one of them was attempting to show the other a quick dance move and the guy went OFF on him. Told him the rudest way possible that it’s not allowed. Then he called another staff member over and just stared at the dudes. It was bad vibes all around. As for the dancing it’s mostly line dancing. Hopefully the beverage association takes look at this place for the water situation because it could get dangerous with having to buy a drink in order to get water. Or just in general you get thirsty after swing dancing. Also the...
Read moreWhiskeyDix is the best bar to call your home bar! I have been going since October 2024 and although I was hesitant at first not knowing what to expect, I was more than pleasantly surprised. There's a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Alex, who I've come to know from becoming a regular, greets you with a smile and quickly calms any nerves you may have and really sets the tone that you're in for a fun night! Inside is bigger than you'd think it is from the outside. There's a dart area, pool table room, tables in the back, or seats and nooks nearer to the dancefloor. So you're sure to find a spot that works for you. I fell in love with the place so much that I decided to celebrate my birthday there with family and friends. I made a birthday reservation on their website for a table. Michelle quickly responded and helped me to plan things out and kindly answered the many questions I had. I had older family members who were attending that just had surgery, so I was concerned about their comfort. Michelle was more than accommodating and was very flexible with table placement, so they could enjoy watching all the dancing. Also, the staff was so friendly to me and my guests and also allowed us to bring our own cupcakes etc. to celebrate. My family was so impressed by the whole night that some of them have continued to go to Whiskeys on other nights on their own. I highly recommend going to WhiskeyDix especially on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays when there's free dance lessons. I honestly can't speak highly enough of this bar from the atmosphere to the staff to the very reasonably priced drinks. If you're on the fence about going... just do it! You...
