Did not even get to try the shrimp here due to the poorest customer service ever. Believe the reviews - the owners or people serving are horrible!
I had found this place on Google and my husband and I decided to try it one day. We made the trip and parked where signage was posted but wanted to walk around the cute town and its stores first before ending the day with the truck.
We were barely getting out of the car and starting to walk when a young asian guy manning the truck started yelling at us that this was for Jenny's parking only. We were very confused and went up to the counter and he reiterated very angrily, adding that this parking was only for customers. I was a tad embarrassed as he was speaking loud enough to cause his own patrons eating in nearby areas to hear the debacle.
My husband stated that we had intentions to eat here and he snarkily replied that if we were to walk around first and then eat, that we need to let them know. (And how were we supposed to know...?) He was very frustrated and raised his voice a lot so we left it at that and STARTED to walk, but due to the experience, we changed our mind after stopping to discuss.
That prompted my husband to go back to the car and park it literally 50 feet away in the back of a parking lot for other businesses. We saw someone taking a quick break in the back and asked them to be sure we could park there and their response was friendlier than whhat we had just witnessed.
Ultimately, we did not get to try the shrimp nor have intentions of doing so, although we really wanted to support local. We were not aware of his own parking rules but there should certainly be a more detailed sign if that is the case so others can avoid the same...
Read moreFor decades, I have gone to Giovanni's for garlic butter shrimp, and have taken numerous friends and family there. This year, my brother and I decided to make monthly trips up North for Giovanni's shrimps, and not wait to take visitors there. Wait time used to be 30 minutes or longer, but the shrimps were so good, we endured the wait. Imagine our surprise on our recent 3 or 4 trips to Giovanni's; they made production changes and cut wait time down to 5, or 10 minutes at the most! They do have lines, because their shrimps are soooo good! Go check them out.
Several years ago, my sis from San Francisco, a friend and I decided to do a test of all 6 shrimp trucks in Kahuku. We bought an order from all and did a side by side test. Giovanni's won hands down!
Today was our day to drive out to the North Shore for shrimps. Yesterday, I read numerous glowing reviews on Jenny's shrimp truck so decided to give them a try. After our trip to Giovanni's in Kahuku, we stopped at Jenny's in Haleiwa and bought two plates of butter garlic shrimp. Our apologies to Jenny's fans, but there was no comparison. I was sorely disappointed, especially after reading all the hype. Shrimps were overdone and tough, and the flesh stuck to the shells making it a chore to peel. Garlic was skimpy, flavor was average and the servings were rather small. Giovanni's shrimps were more plump, succulent and crunchy, and much more delicious....and they gave you 2 scoops of rice! Giovanni's remains #1 on my list and is still KING of the shrimp trucks! Btw, I used to be a chef and know a little about flavor and...
Read moreWe’ve eaten at Jenny’s Shrimp Truck many times, and it never disappoints. Every visit reminds us why this is one of our favorite food stops on the North Shore. If you’re anywhere near the North Shore and love spicy food, Jenny’s Shrimp Truck needs to be on your list. I ordered the spicy garlic shrimp plate, and it absolutely delivered. The shrimp were plump, juicy, and coated in a fiery garlic sauce that had just the right amount of heat—enough to tingle your taste buds without drowning out the flavor.
The rice was soaked in that amazing sauce, making every bite flavorful, and the fresh greens and slice of pineapple were a nice refreshing touch. It’s the kind of meal that makes you pause between bites just to savor the flavor.
Service was quick and friendly, and the casual picnic-table setup added to the laid-back island vibe. If you’re a fan of bold, garlicky, spicy seafood, you’re going to love this place.
