El Azteca Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in O’Fallon

Super disappointed! We have been coming here for 5 years and have sent friends and family here! Tonight was awful! It was like the 2 servers in the restaurant were in a fight and we got stuck in the middle of it! We were sat and told the other guy was our server. He took our order and then literally did not come to our table all night. We had to ask the busser after 30 minutes if our queso was ready which he graciously got for us. We asked random employees twice if they could grab our server for us, however our server NEVER came to our table even after asking.Then an hour after we order food we asked if it was ready, which after we asked they went and got for us. Mine came out cold in the middle. We then asked to speak with the manager which I do t think there was one on staff because the first time we asked we were told that there was a helper. Then after asking to speak with the manager again, the other server came and pretended to be the manager, but didnt take any accountability and didn’t even give a good excuse. He even said they couldn’t remake my order in a timely manner! Then they seemed to have charged us for kids meals even though kids eat free on Tuesdays! I would have walked out without paying after that terrible of an experience, but I didn’t want to set a bad example for my kids. I am so disappointed because this used to be our go-to spot. Not anymore....

When El Azteca opened many years ago we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food.

Fast forward to a year ago and the service was absolutely terrible. We could not get the servers attention to let him know we were ready to order. When we finally received our order, a few things were missing from our plates but when we tried to get our servers attention he looked at us and walked on by. This happened several times. such as when we needed drink refills, our check...

Tonight we decided to try it once more. After some difficulty with commmunicating my order, I was ready to sit back and enjoy my chimichanga, one of my favorite foods at any Mexican restarurant, I was very disappointed to fint burnt steak, green peppers, and onions in what was supposed to be a beef chimichanga. When I asked the server about it he said it was a fajita chimi. I explained that it was not what I ordered and had such a hard time communicating with the server I finally gave up. My husband ordered the enchilada and tamale and they were both so dried out that the sauce resembled paint and when my huband showed them the poor quality of food the server just took it back to the kitchen and never asked if he could replace it with a new order. we both went home hungry and disappointed tonight.

Witnessed a cook/server stirring the salsa with her barehand. I have video of this and have been advised by our attorney to not post the video until the possible lawsuit is settled. Also, my wife was treated poorly by the manager when she posted her review about what she witnessed as well. This isnt the first time we've been there and have always had very positive experiences there! The food has always been amazing along with the service. Our service last night could've been better tho. The chicken nachos were good until I looked up and seen salsa being stirred in a bucket with her barehand! The manager seen that I was recording the woman stirring the salsa and stood in the doorway, blocking the view of her negligence. I tried to be respectful towards the on duty management by paying for my meal and keeping my voice down as I talked to the manager, until my wife told me the store manager got ahold of her this morning and was extremely rude.
