Kona Grill was a giant over priced disappointment. The waiter and the brussel sprouts were the only thing that I liked about this restaurant. Years ago when they had a location in Lincolnshire I used to get the macadamia chicken so when we planned to go out for a coworkers bday I was excited to get that as the other location near me had shut down. There were 4 of us and one of my friends and I ordered two meals and split them because we couldn't decide. We got the macadamia chicken and then the lemon penne. The portions right off the bat looked different. They were incredibly small. The chicken was about a third of the size of what I have received in the past. They looked like two tiny chicken cutlets because they were so over cooked they had shrunk down. They were rock hard, chewy and tough. We each took a bite of our large chicken nugget and spit it into the cocktail napkin. It was inedible. Since we had split it and picked at it we opted not to send it back even though it was $33 for that gross chicken. The lemon penne was so watery that the sauce had lost any flavor but we had ordered a side of the Mac and cheese and realized they just don't season their food. It was truly without any taste and these noodles were complete mush as well. My friend who's bday it was liked her sushi but said the drinks weren't good. We are the types of ladies who always get dessert and the vanilla cake was good but the cheese cake must have been sitting sliced in the fridge because it had almost like a hard film on the edges. The waiter was new but was the highlight of our evening. He was very kind and attentive. Then this morning I check my email and see that Kona had reported me to OpenTable, where I made my reservation, as a no-show. If you get three of those they deactivate your OpenTable account and you can potentially get charged a fee. Another disappointment from Kona today!!! I wouldn't waste your money here and believe me it's...

Babbbbbbbbbbbbyyyyyy!!! Let me tell yall!!! So my sister is always finding stuff on TikTok and around 6pm she found this place. When we walked in, I was like “ummmm, chilllleee I don’t know about this place” I mean it was like 6-7 🫲🏾🫱🏾 people in there 🥴 but I just went along for the adventure and BABBBBYYYYYY WHAT A GREAT ADVENTURE IT WAS!!!!

Yall! Firstly, our waiter Tadeo, was soooo welcoming and so attentive and let me tell you, I 👏🏾 DO 👏🏾 NOT 👏🏾 PLAY 👏🏾 ABOUT 👏🏾 CUSTOMER 👏🏾 SERVICE #PERIODT‼️ He was patient AND told us the best thing for our buck!! All 3 of us got their deal for $39 and IT WAS SOOOO WORTH IT!! 🙌🏾🔥

FOR $39 I got a Virgin mojito (I don’t drink alcohol or wine but that’s an option), a BANGIN’ Cobb Salad with this fire 🔥 dressing that they serve with it, the Lemon Garlic Penne with shrimp ( I wanna cry 😩😭 happy tears bc THAT’S HOW GOOD IT WAS) and finally the raspberry cheesecake that was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!!!

So my sister likes being like me 😂😂 therefore, she ordered the same thing but my friend got the same deal but ordered the Steak 🥩 and potatoes, that she enjoyed very much BUT WHAT STOLE THE SHOW WAS THOSE GREEN BEANS 😩🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I AM NOT a green bean girl but she and my sister raved about them so much that I HAD to try it! 🤯🤯😱😋 and I was totally shocked in the best way possible.

Ok! Let me wrap this up but if you made it this far, I’m highly impressed 😂👏🏾 but one more thing. The General Manager Tanya stopped by our table to check up on us and she was such a delight! 😍☺️🫶🏽 I mean we love the place so much we signed up for their rewards bc 🗣️ WE WILL BE BACKKKKKKK!!!

10/10 hands down! And a little more people eventually started to come in but if you ask me, it wasn’t enough!!!

Imma always keep it 💯 and if you’re considering this as a place to grab a bite, you won’t be...

This was THE WORST dining experience I’ve have EVER had in my life and I am in my 50’s. There were 9 of us and the restaurant was barely half full yet the food took much longer than it should have. The waitress we had seemed to have ZERO experience as a waitress. Reaching over people’s plates to get to the other side of the table and she was not very knowledgeable about the menu not to mention her attitude. She did not put the appetizers in on time so our very well done steaks came out before the appetizers. Definitely NOT a customer service person on any level. 4 of us ordered ribeye steaks and we all asked for medium and all 4 were BONE DRY. It was so dry there was no amount of chewing that made it easy to swallow. They were only 1/4 inch thick so it should not have taken any time to cook them to medium. The mashed potatoes were dry and crumbly and the rice on the maki looked like it had been reconstituted. The waitress had the manager to come over and speak with us and he didn’t understand why we did not want to wait again for the food to be made over again. He himself had an attitude problem so I can understand why his staff did. Had we waited that would have meant us waiting almost an hour in a mostly empty restaurant for food that was nasty to say the least. They took a few of the meals off but we still walked out having paid almost $200 for food that was worth maybe $50. I would never recommend that spot to anyone. On the way home we stopped at a nearby spot for dessert. The guy that waited on us struck up a conversation and of course we mentioned were we had been and he laughed saying so many people come to there spot having had horrible experiences at Kona. I can’t understand all the great reviews. If I could have left a review with zero stars I most...

So, as a seasoned reviewer, I can tell you guys one thing. Don’t believe any of the people that just rate a place based on one person, especially when it’s multiple people doing it one after another. It’s very cringy and fake. I was very hesitant coming here based on the mixed reviews about the portion sizes and prices. My first choice was too busy so I reluctantly came here. The service was very friendly and attentive. That’s a 5 out of 5. Honestly, the prices for the food we got was exactly like the negative reviews. We ordered meatballs, salmon crudo, salad, steakhouse burger, fried rice, sushi, and dessert. Not sure why my family wanted to try this place but it’s a measly 2 out of 5. Not worth a visit to be honest. It was a waste of money. Definitely not a 4.6 on Google. That’s fake. 3.6 on Yelp is too generous. -meatballs 1.5 - it was basically meatballs and mashed potatoes that I could have gone to the grocery store and made myself. Not worth $24 for 4 pieces. -salmon crudo 3 - this was good but it’s the same price as the meatballs. This should have been like $13. -salad - basic salad for $15. -steakhouse burger 3 - it was a pretty good burger and good size. It will fill you up for sure. Not for $27. You can go to Freddy’s to get a steak burger combo for less than $10. - the wagyu steak fried rice was $27 and barely had any wagyu in it. The sushi was laughable. The Las Vegas and coconut shrimp were like $22-23 for 5 pieces. These should have been $15-16 max. The shrimp was cut into tiny pieces. Desserts weren’t any better. The double stacked brownie and chocolate cake were ridiculously $17.

I often remind myself to avoid rushing to judgment based on first impressions. This mantra proved valuable during my recent visit to Kona Grill, booked via OpenTable—an app that rarely lets me down. The online photographs of the restaurant were promising, though they offered little insight into the ambiance. Upon arrival, I noted the setting was more casual than anticipated, but the warm welcome from my server, Paige, convinced me to stay. Paige was knowledgeable and attentive, expertly guiding me through the menu. She recommended the Ribeye Meatballs—a succulent combination of shallots, shiitake mushrooms, macadamia nuts, a chili glaze, and a creamy peppercorn sauce. The dish was an unexpected delight. Encouraged by Paige's impeccable taste, I also tried the Sweet-Chili Glazed Salmon served over fried rice. The pairing was innovative and flavorful, challenging traditional plating methods with its bold textures and tastes. I concluded the meal with a cappuccino, which arrived charmingly accompanied by a rock candy stirrer—a whimsical touch that rounded off the dining experience pleasantly. A heartfelt thanks to both Paige and Mario, the General Manager, for their exceptional hospitality that transformed a simple meal into a memorable culinary adventure. #chicago #foodie #restaurant #hiddengems #oakbrook #Illinois — at Kona Grill.
