A.B. Hillbilly Gyros has long held a special place in my heart. But recently, that mindset has changed.
The food has gone sour, and the treatment of customers seems to have slipped to little more than a shrug of the shoulders. I’ve noticed a worrying trend: genuine concerns in reviews are treated not as valuable feedback, but as personal attacks. This is not how a business should operate. Reviews and concerns are as valuable as gold when it comes to ensuring customer satisfaction and community loyalty.
A.B., you broke my heart. When I first visited several years ago, I was impressed. But now, returning to see what people have been warning about, I can’t ignore the truth. Cleaning may be a chore, but the place needs more than just an air freshener.
As for customer service? People aren’t just profit. They’re your neighbors, your community. Treat them as such. Remember: your reviews shape your restaurant’s reputation far more than any marketing campaign.
Above all, let’s talk about the food. It’s not fair to compare you to other restaurants because you pride yourself on a different style. But attacking others’ palates or dismissing concerns about your food isn’t the answer. When there’s a recurring problem with the food, it’s not the customer’s fault. Nearby restaurants have grown exponentially in the past four years—small businesses like yours, proving it can be done. Maybe it’s time to compete? To try new cooking methods? There are countless ways to craft a gyro, but a burger patty in one might not be the way forward. This doesn’t mean you can’t cook—it just means you may need to explore something new.
A.B., I had high hopes for you. I still do. I hope you learn from the people who want to see you succeed. From the customers who once trusted you, but now hesitate. We don’t review to see you fail—we do it because we care. We do it because we believe you can do better, and we want you to thrive as a small business in...

My wife and I were aware of AB's Hillbilly Gyros, but had never stopped in to check it out since they took over the space. That finally changed when we were looking for something new for lunch recently, and holy smokes am I glad we did!
My wife and I each got a different gyro: the Hillbilly with Tzatziki for me, the Chicken Bacon with honey mustard for her. We were asked if we wanted to make them a combo, which came with fries and a drink. Say yes if you are asked! The fries were both surprisingly plentiful and delicious. I've never had fries prepared with feta cheese and seasoning like this but from now on this is the only way I want them! My gyro was hands-down the absolute best gyro I've been able to find in Oak Harbor yet. The pita was soft and airy and the meats were grilled to perfection, all rounded out with delicious veggies and that amazing Tzatziki. So good!
Remember to look to your left before you finish your order because they have a display case full of fresh pastries and yummy bits to make your meal even better. We grabbed a couple pieces of Baklava on our way out and were glad we saw them at the last second because it would have been a true crime to have departed without some of the sweetest, gooiest, flakiest, nuttiest dessert any mouth can handle.
Do yourself a favor and go eat here and support a local business that can use your help! I, for one, can't wait to go back; I have a new...
Read moreI don’t think I’ve ever been so offended by food in my life. I’ve been debating for a few days whether to leave this review, but I just can’t let it go. From the moment I saw the name of the place, I should’ve known what I was getting into—and even with lowered expectations, it still managed to disappoint me on every level.
First, the grilled onions. I’ve never been to a Mediterranean restaurant, of any caliber, that puts grilled onions on a gyro. It’s just bizarre. Then there’s the meat—cheap, premade gyro slices that tasted like they came straight from a Cash and Carry freezer. And while I could forgive that if they were at least seasoned properly, they weren’t.
The rice? Sour. I still can’t figure out why or how, but it had a strange, off-putting taste I’ve never encountered before. And the tzatziki sauce was downright questionable—it had a funky, almost spoiled flavor that made me push the plate away.
I ordered the chicken gyro plate, and the fact that this place somehow has over 4 stars blows my mind. Worst gyros I’ve ever...
