I was driving down Midway Boulevard in Oak Harbor when I saw a new restaurant with a GRAND OPENING banner in front.
The name of the new restaurant is Mai Thai Restaurant. I like the play on words that make it sound like the rum-based island drink.
Mai Thai is located on Midway Boulevard where Rock Island Coffee Shop used to be. I think Covid caused Rock Island to go out of business and now Mai Thai restaurant has opened in their building as of yesterday (August 15, 2021).
Since I enjoy Thai food, I decided to stop in and try their version of Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken. Their menu offered spice level 0-5. I like spicy foods so I asked for spice level 5 and told them I like spicy foods and they could feel free to go over their level 5.
I was very happy with the spice level of 5+. It was overpowering, but I did experience spiciness. The portion was humongous! So much so that I could not eat it all and requested a take-out bowl so that I could eat the rest at work tonight
I was the first customer of the day so I had my choice of seating. I chose a small 2-place table just at the entrance to the seating area. There were a few 4-place round tables and several more 2-place square tables. Also available were single-place seats along the wall.
The front of the restaurant had a couch that looked comfy, and 2 padded chairs for customers to wait for their take-out orders. Their menu states they offer dine-in and take-out service. No mention of delivery.
The staff was pleasant, polite, and professional. The restaurant was very clean and tidy.
I recommend giving Mai Thai a chance the next time you are in the mood...

Read moreJust ate here earlier today and liked everything about the place. The staff, all that we enacted with were super nice and responsive to our requests. The food was excellent and the portions were, if not the perfect size, a little on the large size. The restaurant has that brand new look and smell but I'm not sure how long ago it opened. The parking, which must be to code appeared a little on the small side but we had no trouble finding a spot and getting in and out of the lot. One special note is that there appears to be only one unisex restroom (didn't look for a second when I found the first and maybe only) and the floor inside the room was wet either from wet hand needing to get to an opposite wall for the paper towels or "splashes made by man"..... I will assume it's wet hands so I can sleep tonight. The 3 people that were with me all expressed how much they liked it and thanked me for...
