We came in as a party of five. We were seated quickly, the hostess was polite. The waitress we were seated with was dismissive and rude. When asked about dietary restrictions, they essentially said, "sorry, everything is cross contaminated, and fried in canola oil, you're out of luck." The dietary restriction is soy and dairy, so we don't really know why the canola oil was mentioned. I went up to the hostess to ask for some clarification, stating that I was looking for an allergy menu, and that the dietary restrictions were soy and dairy. Her first response was that everything is fried in peanut oil, so soy should be fine. Regardless of who is right, the other person is wrong, and both of them just immediately responding is incredibly suspect. The hostess said she would go to the back and check with the kitchen staff, and came back to the table to share that the only thing available was the vegetables. There was no protein options mentioned, meat or beans, or even the impossible meat (which I now know is soy free). She said that they weren't able to use a separate pan to prepare anything, which makes me wonder if they are using the same pans over and over again? Are they not washing the pans between uses? Also, she recommend that our party member with the dietary restriction order a veggie quesadilla. Last I checked, the very base of a quesadilla is cheese, which they can't order because it's dairy... The restaurant is busy, but not full. There are 5 unbussed/cleaned tables, and 3 employees standing at the hostess stand hanging around doing nothing We placed an order for 5 entrees at 7:36 The food arrived at 7:55 We ordered 2 carne asada, 1 mole enchilada, 1 burrito, and then a dietary salad. The dietary salad came kinda sad, but the hostess brought out additional avocado and a vinaigrette that had been double checked by the kitchen as being okay. On a scale of 1-5, our party member rated it as a 4 The carne asada was good. The rice was kinda dry, but that happens with rice under a heat lamp even for half a minute. The burrito was good. The mole enchiladas were good, but a little cold. About halfway through the meal, they switched our server. Our replacement server was very nice.

We recently moved back to the area after a few years in Colorado. We were excited to get back to El Cazador, but found it sadly lacking in taste since the last time we were here. The chips were stale and the salsa was just okay. They now charge five dollars to add rice and beans to what are 18 dollar entrees, and that feels absurd. For that price, rice and beans should be included. Also, it took a substantially long time to receive our food, which is surprising in a Mexican restaurant for a three top with no wait for seating and what appeared to be a light crowd. Most egregiously, I ordered a simple cheese quesadilla, and it was awful. It was super greasy and all the cheese inside was burnt. I barely ate half of it and am feeling sick to my stomach now, hours later. This felt like a huge shift from the El Cazador I remembered. I often photograph my food, so I went back to the 2022 photos to make sure I hadn't lost my mind, and sure enough the two quesadillas are night and day. I'm not sure if they were having a bad night, or the quality has just degraded since I was here last, but I am not inclined to give it another shot when it is more expensive for less reliable and tasty food than many other Mexican restaurant options in Oak Harbor. It is a shame that the food was so disappointing because our server was excellent. *Also, I get that you have a UFC thing going, but at a 5 pm dinner service with families and etc, people maybe don't want to watch kicking and punching and bludgeoning while they're eating. Maybe that one is just me, but I didn't care for that either. *** For the record El Cazador, the chips wouldve been empty in the 2022 photo as well because you eat them while waiting for the food. That is what the 2025 quesadilla looked like the second it hit the table, burnt and greasy, and the fact that you're trying to use that as some excuse for subpar performance instead of exclusively applogizing for the poor quality on this day tells me that you're more concerned with the appearance and reputation of your establishment than the actual satisfaction of your guests.

We thought we would give El Cazadore a try. We are visiting from Texas and were craving some Mexican food. I used to live in oak harbor 20 ish years ago and remember eating here all the time. The location is great. Very nicely decorated. Lots of cool murals on the wall. Service: Great service from the hostess and waitress. Friendly and was happy to explain the menu option. Food: Well…. We had the fajitas. They weren’t bad fajitas by any means. They were ok and the meat was tender and not tough. They just weren’t that flavorful. The guacamole obviously wasn’t fresh or made from avocados. Tasted like they got out of tub at Safeway. The chips and salsa were ok although our server had a hard time understanding when I asked if they had spicier salsa. Drinks: We ordered two house margaritas and these were probably the worst I’ve ever had. I had to ask if they were virgin as they didn’t taste like they had any alcohol. They had a lot of blended ice and not much mix. Reminded me of a icee. No taste. Is it fair I compare this restaurant to the places I eat in Texas? I think so. Making a great margarita isn’t that hard. Putting a little tequila in a 10 margarita isn’t that hard. I get it. This isn’t Tex mex. But come on. Very disappointed.

Food is great as always, however front of house was very unprofessional. Arrived ten minutes after my pickup time and was told it was still being prepared, which is entirely understandable due to staffing shortages etc. Went out to my car for ten minutes and came back, gave my name a second time and was told it is still being prepared. Sat down right next to the front counter and two takeout orders were placed behind the counter. Was asked a third time for my name and again told that it was still being prepared. I watched both host(ess)s check the name on the to go orders sitting there. I had spoken to both of them, so they knew who I was. After 45 minutes waiting I was asked a FOURTH time for my name and was told “they’re boxing it up now”. Another ten minutes went by before I was asked for my name AGAIN and then handed the order that had been sitting there now, on a rack, not under a heat lamp, FOR AN HOUR, and offered absolutely no apology for the miscommunication or poor service. When my boyfriend asked if it could be reheated the host said he would have to check, at which point I just left. Again, GREAT food, but honestly some of the worst service I have ever experienced.

Response from the owner 4 hours ago Hola Sydney, we are sorry that you experience an atypical visit last evening. Thank you for letting us know this happened. I will email a code for a discount on your next order. I spoke with the Hosts on duty, and the first host said she spoke with a male and was given the name “Thomas” for the order, scanned the rack of orders, and did not see it since the order was placed under “Sydney”. This caused the initial confusion. They clearly did not follow up and rebound well while we were hit with several to-go orders along with a large ticket for a party in house. For the future should you encounter any extended wait times that aren’t typical please ask for the on duty Manager or Supervisor. They are always on duty to help with hiccups like this. In the future if you return and have a better experience as you usually do, we would love an updated review. During this tough time for local businesses as we work to meet demand as we train employees, we appreciate positive feedback as much as we appreciate the constructive criticism. We will ensure your experience is put to good use to ensure better service for future customers as well. Muchas Gracias!

*My boyfriend never spoke to the host or hostess until just as we were leaving. His name is not Thomas. Everyone I spoke to repeated “Sydney” back to me when I said it to them. Please hire people who can take...

Very disappointed with my visit tonight. The last few times I have been in it seems to be more problems with each visit.

Tonight one guest at our table ordered the pumpkin pina colada. She even pointed it out to the server to make sure she knew which one she wanted. Out came a regular one. No biggie annoying but happens. Waved down another server explained it wasn't right and what had been ordered. The server seemed annoyed that we ordered the wrong drink, then tried to see if I ordered it. No I ordered water and my friend ordered the pumpkin one not regular. My fiance ordered a soda which never came and we were charged for. The kids got tiny glasses of chocolate milk .

Our food took longer to come out then normal. Three different wait staff came by to see if we ordered drinks but when we tried to order more chips and salsa while we waited no one came by. After 10 minutes we grabbed who I think was a bus girl and asked her. She was super sweet and grabbed them.

I ordered the mole burrito because the mole enchiladas there are normally great. I asked for no green onions since I hate the flavor of them along with they give me horrible heart burn and got a ton of them. Our food was dropped at the table without double checking if it was right. Again we flag someone down a few minutes later. Explain I ordered no green onion. Again frustrating and annoying but happens.

The waitress took it back. Ten minutes more where my party is over half down eating thier own dinners out comes my burrito . Minus most green onions still a few.... They took off the toppings and green onion instead of remaking it. Fine what ever don't waste food. But my beans and rice at this point were dry from I am guessing being put under a salamander to melt the new cheese on the burrito and the burrito had no Mole sauce on top! They took it all off when they took off the green onion. I made my order purely on the Mole sauce which is yummy.

Again flag down the same poor bus girl and ask for sauce. I gave up eating it after a few bites because I was over it. When the check came they had charged my fiance for a soda he never received. After waiting a few minutes he said screw it and just paid and we left. We had four people helping at once without talking to each other but when we needed something like drink refills we had to flag someone down.

So frustrating since my fiance knows how much I loved this restraunt when I lived on island and takes me when we go up to visit friends so I can have it. Not sure if...
