Oak Island Sporting Goods — Local services in Oak Island

Made a purchase that I needed to return. Unopened. In original bag. On a standard credit card. A day after I bought it. Was told that the return policy was to give store credit, not refund the card. I respect a business’ right to run its business as it sees fit, but that is so out of the ordinary these days that I was very taken aback. I ended up returning the thing I didn’t need and then having to buy $40 worth of stuff (that I also don’t really need) to use up the credit (because I have no idea when I’ll be back in Oak Island). Super frustrating.

Again, their store and they can have the policy if they want but I can express my displeasure and hope that they reconsider the refund policy (because I’ve not run into something like that in decades).

Aside from the high prices (which I gladly absorb at other places if the service or quality creates value), I'm gonna avoid this place in the future. Staffer acted as if he didn't care whether I was there or not (if the owner reads this, I'd be glad to tell you date and time this occurred, and ID the staffer) and was fairly useless to the consumer. I seemed to be a bother to him. If I owned this store, I'd either sternly reprimand this staff member (and put them on a short leash) or fire this staff member fairly immediately. If that staffer who didn't care is the actual owner... all the more reason not to use this merchant. I've been in this store about 4 times during my stay (probably with atleast 1 more coming soon). The staff has always been very helpful and knowledgeable with a good selection to choose from. I purchased a surf fishing rod/reel (which they loaded with fishing line for free), misc tackle and bait. Also purchased state fishing license. Each of the 4 people that have helped me have been very nice. Local knowledge, advice, tips and tricks were greatly appreciated. Could I have gotten some of the items on Amazon slightly cheaper?
