This is a beautiful bar, however, as much as I want to love it my friend and I were treated so poorly, I have to leave an honest review. First, we were told there were no available seats and we had to stand at the counter by the door. Fine, I understand. After waiting a few minutes we decided it might be better to find another bar where we could sit and relax. The host (and part owner) told us that she would call me when a table opens. I said “okay but do you have my number?” She said no. lol. We then realized two seats at the bar opened up and asked her if we could sit there. She said yes. We sat and for several hours we ordered drink after drink, enjoying ourselves. After a few hours, we asked the bartender for another round and he told us that we had been at the bar for two hours and he was told to “cut us off” lol WHAT? We had ordered at least 5 drinks each, totaling 10. I understand if we were sipping one drink over two hours but 10? How was this possible? The same co-owner woman from earlier came up to us and said “you two have been here for too long. It’s been THREE HOURS, I have people waiting for a bar seat” in a sharp, rude tone. This is a tone I have simply never heard at an Oakland establishment my whole life. This is not what Oakland is about. We make everyone feel welcome. I felt so humiliated and really wish we didn’t spend so much time and money at this place. They should feel embarrassed for treating good paying, local clientele in this way. You never know who you are serving… best not be rude to folks for no reason. I understand they have a 2 hour table limit, but for the bar there should be different rules applied. Additionally, a bit of leniency on your rules are necessary in particular situations. That’s key to...

Read moreWe stopped in here around 7pm for a drink ahead of a 8pm show at the fox theater a block up the street (along with everyone else, I guess). The main bar was full and... I guess they didn't want to seat us on the really comfortable chairs and couches in the main part of the bar for some reason. We ended up at a second bar that looks out on to the street. Wife complained the stools were uncomfortable, and none of the drinks looked very appealing on the menu. Between not finding anything we liked, and seats that look out on to the street (the whole point of the bar is the ambiance, looking out of the building with your back to the interior defeats the purpose) we decided to leave without ordering drinks, and instead went next door to the funky Cafe Van Kleef which was great. The hostess was very...
