Ultimately, I had a great time at Oaktown Roost. For the price point you pay, I think it’s a very good value. The rooms were clean, I liked the novelty of the outdoor terrace area, it felt very secure, and the rooms were decently furnished and appointed and staff was friendly and helpful.
Not necessarily “cons”, just things to consider as you book: as stated on their website pretty clearly, there is no elevator and all rooms are on the second floor, so keep that in mind when thinking about mobility and luggage. The $40 on site parking is across the street and involves lock and gate that needs to be manually operated (no fobs or automation or car-accessible key pad). During lobby operating hours, this is fine, because the staff will help you open and close the gate. But beyond that, you will have to do it yourself- just something to keep in mind for solo travelers. The walls are a little thin, and I think they know that which is why they provided earplugs, but fortunately everybody was respectful. Another thing that’s a little odd Is that the doors in the patio terrace section all have decorative glass on them. Most of the decorative glass is obscured by patterns, but some of it is not. though it’s great for letting in natural light, I couldn’t help but think that it minimizes the privacy a bit, someone could in theory put their face to the glass and see into your room if they wanted.
TLDR: a well-appointed and affordable safe, clean property that’s perfect for solo/couple travels, with some things to consider...
Read moreOaktown Roost is a great budget-friendly spot in the heart of Oakland. It’s easy to access, well-located, and has just enough charm to make it memorable. The building has character, and while it can be noisy at night, they provide earplugs—a small but thoughtful touch.
The common area is cozy and well-designed, with couches, a pool table, and really solid coffee (served there, not in your room). The bed was comfy, the shower hot—though the water pressure could be better.
Communication from the staff was excellent. For the price, it’s a solid stay with all the basics covered and a few nice surprises. Five stars for...
Read moreStayed for one night and it was a great experience. I appreciate how close it is to the 12st BART station and being right in downtown/chinatown theres great food and cool markets super close by. The room was really nice and felt high-end with a nice shower and all the amenities you need. The courtyard was also a really cool touch, with a nice lounging area and views of the skyline. The people at the front were really chill too and it definitely had a local, quaint feel, quite a bit different from a large chain. I'd 100%...
