Awaken Cafe & Roasting — Restaurant in Oakland

The selection here is super limited. When I review a coffee shop, I try and order something similar to my regular order (Blended Caramel Mocha) so I have a very familiar idea of taste. Here they didn't have blended which is normally fine, I just asked for iced. They gave me hot. They also didn't have caramel or anything similar, so when I asked for a vanilla mocha my server asked if I meant just a latte. When they knew what drink I was looking for. I had to spell it out "a mocha with added vanilla flavoring."

The coffee itself was good, nothing special but then again I couldn't get anything close to what I normally judge on. I also got avocado toast which was good. Nothing too special but very good. Ended up sharing with a friend.

If you have a drink you know you want that isn't a basic espresso, look elsewhere. If your vibe is simple espressos then you're in a very good option coming here. Just don't expect anything super...

Walked in while waiting for an appointment in the area. Ordered an Earl Grey Tea without so much as a thought to look up at the menu (I live in downtown SF). Total: $3.50 with tax for a 12 ounce cup with a bag.

A little shocked, I asked what made it justify the price."It's full-leaf", was the response. That made complete sense. $3.50 for a cup of something wonderful, and to take up a chair while enjoying access to the internet in a welcoming environment.

What? NO WIFI. "Sorry, but if you want more water for the tea let us know." Really!!!

I surprised my wife with a Barista class at Awaken Coffee, Cortt (owner) and Dustin were just fantastic right from communication to the whole class. Dustin went into such great detail and I wasn't expecting a session with that level of info. He made sure we both understood each aspect and above all made us enjoy the experience. I would go as far as saying Dustin is a connoisseur on anything coffee, he has plethora of information that he was willing to share and was super patient overall.
