What a great find, this multicultural German / Eritrean coffee shop almost flew under my radar, but luckily I gave the place a try. I have no regrets.
They have an excellent selection of coffees, a good array of pastries, German "brot" toasts, Eritrean Habesha chicken all with a touch of Eritrean spices. The charming owner has a fascinating background drawing from all of the above cultures. When you visit the shop, it will be a treat to make her acquaintance and learn about her heritage.
I enjoyed a latte which had a distinctive coffee flavor as you would expect from Ethiopian beans, where coffee was first originated. The pretzel sandwiches are to die for, a mix of fresh cucumbers and tomatoes along with an accompaniment of your choice, I chose a simple cheese, enclosed in a delicious pretzel bun soft and doughy to the taste.
The location on College Ave. was very welcoming with plenty of seating and a subdued selection of music playing. They have an upper loft-like area and a lower table based seating area next to the Barista's area. There is also seating outside on the sidewalk, and the loft area has a bar-like seating looking out onto the street where you can watch the people walk by.
The service was very nice, partially by the owner and later by a...
Read moreperfect unpretentious neighborhood cafe!!! i’ve been looking for my go to cafe near my house and after one visit I know I’ve found it! timeless is closest but the attitude is just A Lot and the food is hit and miss and dek doi doesn’t do decaf.
The decaf americano here was delicious, their bagels are obviously made with lots of care and their ful bowl is a perfect protein and fiber filled breakfast. It’s spiced fava beans topped with good olive oil, raw tomatoes and green peppers and goat cheese served with starter bakery toast. I’m allergic to eggs and they offered to sub for avocado free of charge.
It’s owned by a poc mother and son and they’re both very sweet and attentive and the folks who were there on a Saturday afternoon were all friendly, the community vibe was just super lovely. Also, this strip of college isn’t super loud or busy so sitting outside is pleasant.
anyway, this is a special place and I’m excited to spend...
Read moreThe coffee here was pretty good. It's an interesting vibe, which resembles a street market scene more than a coffee shop. The owner seems to have regular and people are having loud conversations, literally shouting across the small cafe. No one seems to care if they are being disrespectful to others. Including some of the staff. That said, the owner seemed very nice. But maybe more suited to run a dive bar than a cafe.
If you want a loud street scene, this is your place, but if you want to get any reading done or just have a quiet cup of coffee. Look elsewhere.
Update: I decided to take off a star for the staff's passive aggressive reply to my review. Saying that "this is not a library" in reply to me talking about my person experience of being disrespected is just not ok... It's Gaslighting.
Im moment staff - there's no need to put someone down simply expressing...
