Great Wall Restaurant — Restaurant in Ocala

I initially was going to another Chinese restaurant and they were closed! I looked at the Google reviews and found Great Wall close by. I said if they have such good reviews from Google maybe they are really good. I will say I wasn’t impressed when I drove up to the strip mall storefront. I was shaking my head and the place was empty except for the owner mopping the floor and his wife taking orders at the counter. When I greeted them I could tell they were just friendly people. That means a whole, whole lot in today’s world. 5 stars for great service. I ordered fried rice with extra vegetables and spring rolls. I’m not going to say it was perfect but, I will say it was absolutely delicious. It wasn’t to oily or spicy. It wasn’t frozen stuff that had been refried. I don’t think they go through a lot of veggies here in Ocala so I’m not upset. It could have used more but, notice the 5 Star review I still gave them. Their prices were very reasonable for what I got. If you figure dollar to dollar value versus quality this place is the hands down heavy weight champ of Chinese food in Ocala. They even offered me free egg rolls because it was my first time visiting them. Now I am not going to lie to you and say you can’t get better Chinese food at a place that charges 3 times as much. This isn’t that kind of place but, if you expect 5 star service, need 5 star prices and are fine with every day kinda 4.7 star food the Great Wall is perfect. Unfortunately, I went to this place yesterday to buy food: a combination of rice with boneless ribs and another combination with shrimp and rice. The rice was greasy, the meat seemed to have been reheated and was tough, and the shrimp were spicy. But unfortunately, this caused an allergic reaction a few hours later. When I went to get some food for myself, I took some for my dog, who is used to eating Chinese food and homemade food. When I saw my dog, I had to give her Benadryl because she was having an allergic reaction. She only ate boneless ribs, and this caused her to start having trouble breathing and also developing large lumps all over her body. Her private area looked like it was going to explode. I felt like I was going crazy. I gave her some Benadryl to see if she would get better, but later my dog ​​started vomiting and had diarrhea. I also had an allergic reaction to this food. Anyway, my husband and I ended up throwing it away. I only went to this place because it had good reviews, but please be careful. I don't recommend it. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but when your health is at risk, I have no other option. I thank God that my 3 and 5-year-old children didn't eat this food. Today was the first time I've ever ordered here. Went spent $74, I was confident to spend that much being that their reviews were so positive, and it was worth every penny. The lady (I wish I knew her name) was so nice when I called in my order and my husband called me after he picked everything up and was like, I see why they have such good reviews. They are very personable, kind, and generous. Absolutely excellent customer service.

We ordered honey chicken, sweet and sour chicken, spring rolls, Crab Rangoon, bourbon chicken, and vegetable and shrimp fried rice. Everything was tasty and full of flavor. It was not bland AT ALL and the portion sizes are more than generous. The rice was cooked perfectly and they have vegetables in their bourbon chicken. I didn't even know that was a thing. Also, their crab Rangoon is not some small crunchy fried pastry with a tiny filling. When you bite into theirs you can TASTE the crab and cream cheese. Its like a ball of yummy goodness. Lol. And the sauce that comes with it, I dont know what it was but was delicious!

Ive ordered from a few Chinese restaurants in Ocala but this is by far the best one we've been to. We thought a great review was deserved for such wonderful people and excellent food. We will definitely be ordering there...
