First, they put lard in the beans. I had to ask, but the owner waited on us and knew the answer right away. Unfortunately, they had a small section that said "vegetariana", which means vegetarian in Spanish, and they had "Beans" in that section. I hope the owner sees this. Lard is NOT vegetarian (and it's not kosher, so kosher keepers couldn't eat here either). My suggestion to the owners is to create a vegetarian option for those who can't eat lard to go with your vegetarian dishes. Now, that being said, I was eating here with a friend who was very excited to bring me here, so I didn't want to disappoint her by asking a bunch more questions, like:
All in all, the food was good. The veggie burrito was big. I ate half of it, along with the obligatory pre-meal chips and salsa, and a couple of spoonfuls of Spanish rice.
The salsa was kind of bland and extremely mild, but overall not too bad. It did the trick; typing the chip and dribbling on the table accordingly. They could put some cilantro and/or jalapeno juice in it, maybe a little tomato sauce, which would give it a little flavor.
When I worked in restaurants, my head chef loved my salsa recipe so much that they added it to the menu. It was simply (the chunkier the better): 1 can chopped tomatoes 1 can tomato sauce 1/2 jar pickled jalapenos with juice(more juice makes it hotter) chopped onion
I've since realized that adding cilantro makes it even better, but not everyone likes cilantro, so choose accordingly. 🤷🏻♀️ Easy Peasy
Anyway, the Spanish rice was quite tasty, not too dry (as many recipes tend to be) and not bland, but not the typical Spanish rice flavor. Idk what they've done to make it, but it was good. It was ONLY rice and didn't have added vegetables, like many Spanish rice dishes tend to have (chilies and other such veggies that make it kind of ewwie tasting.... New word, ewwie).
The veggies in the burrito were "fajita veggies", peppers, onion, mushrooms, broccoli, and some others 🤔. It was topped with white cheese, and plenty of it! 🤯 It also has lettuce, chopped tomato, and sour cream on the side. All in all, a very good dish. (I got two orders of rice, since I...
Read moreMy parents and I stumbled upon this restaurant when we were camping in Silver Springs over Memorial Day weekend. It was extremely hot and nobody wanted to cook,so we found this place near our campground. This truly is a " family " restaurant. We met the mother, the daughter, and her husband. The service was extremely friendly, and everyone was helpful and very accommodating. I first want to say they have an amazing salsa! All too often, it's a liquefied tomato sauce, not this! It was fresh, homemade, and had chunks of tomatoes, onion, and others in it. It's probably one of the best tasting salsa I've had,I hope they never change the recipe. The food was very good and came out lightning fast. I had the chicken burrito with shredded chicken, my dad had the beef tacos, and my mom had the steak chimichanga. My dad and I loved ours. He said it was one of the best tacos he'd had. I loved the chicken inside the burrito. All the food had exceptional flavor, and they were all super filled. I could only eat half my burrito because it had so much chicken in it. My mom, however, did not care for hers. Where we live, most of the chimichangas are filled with shredded beef and deep fried. They do not have a shredded beef at this restaurant, they only had steak. While the steak was tender and tasted amazing, my mom really only likes the shredded beef, which is the most common filling in most places. They also forgot to deep fry the tortilla, so my mom essentially got a steak burrito. She didn't say anything about it,but I know the family would have fixed it instantly. That's my really only criticism of this restaurant, they should offer a more common shredded beef filling for their chimichangas. I would go back here in an instant and highly recommend...
Read moreThis is our 2nd time eating here! We just moved to Ocala from Kentucky. This place is delicious! The salsa & chips alone… chef’s kiss They’re addictive! It’s the only Mexican restaurant we will eat at. The portions are big & they make everything fresh in the restaurant. I asked! All the way down to the chips! It’s always jumping in there! Filled with families everywhere enjoying the food! I see a lot of folks like the bottled Mexican Coca-Cola. My fiancé had it the first time we went & I wish I would have got one too! The team works together very well. So you don’t have to feel bad about asking for something if it’s not your server. They take care of all patrons together- which is so nice! 😋 I’m on a diet & they had a lot of options to chose from. The water I ordered with extra lemons did not disappoint! LOL! The server brought me 3 slices of lemons! 😂 When you walk in- I saw how it was full & I thought there would be a wait but it wasn’t at all. They work very fast to clean the tables & accommodate incoming guests. My only complaint was I had the unfortunate experience of setting at the table next to a lady named “Linda Schneider”. Who complained about her taco bowl at the end of the meal after eating almost all of it. Left a bad Google review when she shouldn’t have. I’m telling you, give this establishment a try! You won’t be disappointed! Thank you for all y’all do & we will see...
