Cantina Los Agaves Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Ocean City

My husband and I came here last year with his parents, who are not big eaters of Mexican food, and had an excellent time. The food was amazing. We came to Ocean City and this spot was on top of our dinner list. Which makes the horrendous service experienced today (7/20) all the more tragic. My husband and I arrived and saw the restaurant was busy. I am more than willing to wait my turn. I placed my name to be seated for 2 at 7:48 and was told 20 minute wait, which I happily accepted. I was told I would be called. My number was written down on a regular notebook. However, 35 minutes pass with no update. I watch multiple large families go inside and be seated right away, ahead of multiple groups waiting both inside the lobby and outside. When I go inside to check along another gentleman who had also been waiting. He speaks to the hostess and only then does she notice the wait time. She calls out for another patron once, does not attempt to call them, and then seats the other gentleman. Immediately afterwards, the patron she had previously called out enters and is told his table was given away, again with no attempt to contact him. 40 minutes of wait time with no update, my husband and I decide to leave. As of 9:05pm, I have still not received a call or text as promised, so it is clear that anyone not directly in the face of the hostess is ignored. In addition to my wait, the other families in the lobby had been waiting for even longer. I would be more understanding if we were a large group, but seating a group of 2 should have been quite easy. 10/10 recommend. We stayed for 4 nights at FSK resort - had a few seafood dinners and they were more basic than a chain restaurant and wouldn't visit again.. had the craving for Guac and we ended up here. And am I grateful we did. First we ordered pickup.. the two men at the front were very kind, we were greeted with a smile and read back our order to double check, then a kind goodbye. Before I left, I peeked behind the counter to see it was a huge restaurant/bar that was so beautiful inside. If we didnt have 2 kids that arent so restaurant friendly.. we wouldve definitely stayed to eat. We got the Carne Asada and the Camarones Mexicanos Dinner (sub beans for rice).. both phenomenal. Very large portion - the shrimp were amazing - steak cooked perfect - rice perfect - tortillas were prepared warm and kept warm .. we ate the whole meal without saying much to eachother other than how amazing it was. How refreshing to actually have a great meal. It was so good we were going to order the same thing twice but they close at 9pm and it’s 8:42 so instead I’m leaving a great review reminiscing on the meal we had. Honest customer review. The only thing they have going for them is they are new and clean. I really don't think they'll be in business in a year. The taco salad was the smallest I have ever had and the most expensive I have every had at $17, which consisted of mush ingredients with shredded lettuce. The beef in both the tacos and taco salad had no flavor tasted liked plain ground beef. House chips were also bland with no salt or seasoning probably shipped in and not house made. Margarita was served in a soda glass and not a margarita glass, weird for being a Mexican restaurant. Waiter forgot to bring our cheese dip and conveniently forgot to take it off the bill. Owner trying to pass down expenses of opening a new restaurant onto the overpriced menu items. Non existent atmosphere, no music playing and customers talking low cause you can hear a pin drop.
