Jolly Jellyfish Beach Club — Restaurant in Ocean City

My family and I spent the week at the Jolly Jellyfish Pool Bar and had a great experience overall, except for Tuesday (8/5) between 6–7 PM. During that time, we encountered an extremely rude and unprofessional bartender. His snarky comments were so out of place and uncalled for that I had to glance back at my family to confirm I wasn’t imagining it. Unfortunately, everyone heard the remarks and was equally confused and annoyed by the poor customer service.

I want to emphasize that the rest of the staff throughout our stay were fantastic — friendly, attentive, and professional. However, this one bartender’s behavior stood out in the worst way. For context, he appeared to be a shorter, young man (around 21), with shoulder-length hair, a hat, a small mustache, and a generally dismissive demeanor.

As a business owner myself, I would never tolerate an employee treating customers this way. If any of my staff behaved like that, they would be removed from a client-facing role immediately. Despite the experience, we still tipped 20%, unsure whether tips were pooled, as I wouldn’t want the other excellent staff penalized for one person’s behavior.

Unfortunately, this single negative encounter influenced our decision not to return or spend more money at the establishment, even though our family of seven was ready to do so. I hope this employee reflects on his conduct and that management addresses the situation. The rest of the team deserves better...

My wife and I have spent a lot of time at the Jolly Jellyfish over the summer and it has always been consistently good, if not great. The menu is extensive with lots of variety. The bartenders do a great job accommodating the crowds and Marc (the owner) has a few drinks of his own on the menu as well. The servers that take care of the tables are attentive and hustle to get your orders as quickly as possible. There are live bands everyday fro 4 - 7 and there's a lot of dancing as well. You can't beat the atmosphere, as the JJ sits in front of the ocean and the view is spectacular. Marc and his crew understand customer service and they do their best on all fronts. Marc is already looking towards next year as how to improve upon what he learned from this year. If you haven't given the JJ a try, you're missing out. I'm a local so I am quite familiar with the OC scene.The jungle bar before being bought by the current owner at least had food that was not garbage. We ordered the crab dip and it tasted as if it was microwaved in its paper container that it was served in per order. The chips that accompanied it were great but half of the serving was crumbled. We opted to end the idea of going beyond the appetizer. Two out of three bartenders were completely intoxicated either by alcohol or another substance. Our bartender made three mixed drinks for us, two being what should have been margaritas. The first was marginal and the second wasn't even close to tasting like a margarita should. The same drink supposedly made by the same person, and they didn't taste anything alike....
