Iām going on record; I grew up in Texas, I am Hispanic. My beloved Grandma made fresh flour tortillas every single day, come hell or high water. I could always show up to her house unannounced and she would never have any shortage of papas, frijoles, arroz, molĆ©, or eggs to make myself a taco or a burrito, depending. When I joined the Marine Corps, stationed across the country and sometimes the globe, I would spend many nights just having a hankering for my Grandmaās food that could never be satisfied with anything else. Iām here to say that HomeState is just as good as my Grandmaās cooking, and that is no BS. I wouldnāt dream of comparing my Grandmaās food if I did not truly believe it in my heart and stomach. This fills the empty void I used to have and the service and atmosphere are amazing. Even had the chance to meet Briana Valdez and her sister Andy in person and talk with them for a good few minutes on opening day at the Oceanside location (wouldnāt have missed it for the world). Iāll summarize my conversation with them and the food in one word: Authentic. If you want good Texas breakfast tacos and not prioritizing a trip to HomeState, you are doing yourself a disservice. Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited HomeState in Oceanside today, and hereās the lowdown š“: Nestled at 510 Vista Way, this spotās cozy charm won me over! The migas - a delightful concoction of scrambled eggs, cheese, and corn tortillas - was comfort food at its finest. š³ The potatoes offered a salty kick that complemented the main dish perfectly. š„ The hibiscus limeade was a tart, refreshing choice, exactly what youād expect. šŗ And letās not forget the homemade flour tortillas - absolutely delicious and a must-try! š®
However, there were a few hiccups. The drip coffee was disappointingly cold. āļø Some food handling practices raised my eyebrows - no protective gear like hats or gloves in sight, and a cook reused a cleaning rag then stashed it back in their apron. š¬ Also spotted were a bearded chef without a mask or hairnet and a female cook with her hair not properly tied back, which made me a bit uneasy.
The tomato ranch, while promising a twist, ended up tasting just like regular ranch to me. š
In summary, HomeState boasts a fantastic concept with dishes that truly make you feel at home, but some improvements in food safety could elevate the dining experience even more. #FoodieReview #OceansideEats #HomeState #ComfortFood...

I also bring my dog and we hang out on the patioāitās super chill and pet-friendly, which I really appreciate. The staff here are incredibly kind and clearly work so hard, especially during busy times. One standout is Reynaāevery time I visit, sheās nonstop, constantly moving, and still manages to be friendly and upbeat. I had to ask for her name because her work ethic and attitude are so admirable!
If you havenāt checked this place out yet, you definitely should.
