East Gourmet — Restaurant in Ocoee

I wanted to give this place hope since they are on the cheaper end of local Chinese American spots. But I should have prepared myself for the meal I was about to receive...

Prior reviews left me wondering if I was about to have a good experience or a not so pleasant one. I can honestly say that East Gourmet delivers mixed reviews, and that is spot on!

The menu is limited compared to other Chinese American spots, but not too far out of the ordinary. The egg roll was OK, but left a bad aftertaste. (You'll see the common theme shortly...) the chicken wings were again, just OK, but also left a bad aftertaste and were lacking much flavor. The wonton soup was seriously lacking flavor (thank the heavens I keep msg on stash) and the actual wonton left a weird aftertaste...again!

The beef lomein was lacking and the beef was also on the lower end of quality. Gray and flavorless and as you may have guessed it, left a bad aftertaste. The same can be said for the pork spareribs dinner combo (which was small and compared to a "lunch sized" serving from other locations). The rice was bland and the ribs were lacking that familiar "sweet red sauce" flavor we all know.

I truly think the "weird aftertaste" is due to a lack of changing oils or the woks they use aren't cleaned consistently. The lack of flavor issues are consistent with most Chinese American spots here in Central Florida. The food didn't make me sick, so that is one plus, I...

I order from this establishment all the time spending more than $45 during each visit. I ordered three combo meals and the rice was disgusting. By the time I begin to eat my dinner the establishment was closed so I tried calling them the very next day beginning at 11:15 but no one answered during my three attempts. I called back in the evening around 4:45pm and spoke to a lady, which I explained to her my loyalty to their establishment and how I was disappointed in the quality of the food. She asked me what would I like to do, I told her since I frequent them a lot I would be okay with having the food remade in another visit. She told me I needed to bring the food back, mind you it had been over 16 hours and I made attempt to call them. Unfortunately there was no resolution because I no longer have the food and I’m not about to dig in the trash to retrieve it. I do not recommend this...

I just ordered food for delivery and about 5 minutes after the phone call my cat started foaming at the mouth and I had to rush her to an emergency animal hospital. I called to explain and they told me to just come pick up the food. I told them I wanted a refund and they refused. They called me back and screamed at me telling me that I shouldn't of ordered food if I was going to the hospital. I tried explaining to him I didnt know until after I made the order because it all happened so fast. My fiance tried talking to them and the delivery driver proceeded to threaten my fiance saying he was going to come into our home for this. Horrible experience, they still wont give me a refund when it was an emergency situation and I'm now scared for my life because they have my address and my card information.
