I recently went on a taste tour of Haitian restaurants to try dishes like Griot and Diri Djon Djon, and this spot was one of the better ones! The Diri Djon Djon was flavorful, and the Griot was a nice balance of meat to fat, which was a big plus. While the Griot could have used a bit more seasoning, the sauce brought it all together beautifully.
We also tried the mac and cheese, which looked and smelled amazing, but the taste didn’t quite match. The noodles were a bit too soft for my preference, and it had a slight sweetness, likely from the bell peppers.
Where they truly shined was the pâté. The flavors were fantastic—so good it brought me close to that nostalgic feeling I look for in classic Haitian pâté. I didn’t try the pâté kòde since I grew up with the regular kind, but this one still hit the mark, especially for the price.
The cake was decent, but what really stood out was the atmosphere. This place clearly holds a special spot in the community. The door was constantly revolving, and by the time we left, the line was stretching out the door.
All in all, I’d rate it an 8.5/10 and would definitely recommend it for a great taste of...
Read moreThis is my birthday weekend. My wife is American but understands Creole and loves my culture. She went to buy me some food today and was totally disrespected by the woman serving the food. She thought my wife wouldn't understand what she was saying not only made rude comments but made my wife feel very unwelcome. I'm sorry for the owner of this business because I always send colleagues here as well as myself and my family. I will no longer be doing this because it's time for this stupidity and low class treatment of paying customers to cease! We could have spent our money anywhere but made the CHOICE to support our community. When we go to other cultures' restaurants, they show us nothing but love and we will be supporting those places moving forward. Haitians...
Read moreMy experience was good the staff work swiftly and the portions were big. The owner is very accommodating. As far as the food not so great while the portion was a good size for a medium legume (spinach) they only put one piece of meat (beef). The meat need to cook more as it was not tender. The legume was good the white rice was not mushy the black bean were good too. I also ordered the fritay (pork griot) the meat was seasoned and decent. The meat Did Not smell or taste FRESH which is a PLUS. The Akra mediocre, the marinade was sour, the piklis sour. The plantains good. The beef patties need more meat but are very flaky and delicious. The cake was moist taste better at room temperature rather than straight out...
