I once again had the opportunity to sample the culinary delights at Flavors of Jamaica, and I must say that the flavors truly lived up to the restaurant's name. The food itself was a symphony of fantastic tastes that transported me to the heart of Jamaica. However, my experience was marred by a few unfortunate hiccups that I can't overlook.
To begin, my journey started with a phone call to place my order. After enduring 7 rings, a friendly lady answered and requested my patience as she placed me on hold. After 3 minutes, the call abruptly disconnected, leaving me questioning if I should move on. But my oxtail craving got the better of me, so I turned to DoorDash for the solution. Placing an online order seemed straightforward enough, and an email promptly informed me of the designated pickup time.
Arriving at the restaurant, I found parking scarce and a line forming, indicating a busy and popular spot. Joining the queue, I eventually inquired with a staff member about my online order, only to be directed to switch lines – a baffling request that led to some humorous confusion and raised eyebrows. Finally reaching the register after a 10-minute wait, I pointed out my order, visible from the counter, while holding up my DoorDash receipt as instructed. Strangely, the staff member opted to serve another another customer from the previous line I was in, a decision that left me perplexed. Thankfully, the customer declined bad told the staff member to wait on me since I was next in line.
The situation became even more puzzling when it seemed that my order was in question, despite my evidence. It took a bit of insistence and the presentation of my receipt for things to finally fall into place. The food, however, was handed over in a stapled brown paper bag that appeared close to bursting, raising concerns about the care in handling orders.
Upon arriving home, the delightful anticipation quickly faded as I discovered that macaroni was absent from not one, but two of the meals. It was a disheartening realization after an already challenging experience. As much as I relished the flavors of Jamaica, the inconveniences, misunderstandings, and missing items left a lasting impression. Regrettably, these setbacks overshadowed the exceptional food. Considering the overall experience, I'm never revisiting...
Read moreFlavors of Jamaica is a hidden gem that offers an authentic taste of the Caribbean! One of the standout dishes at Flavors of Jamaica is their oxtails. Cooked to perfection, the oxtails are tender, juicy, and bursting with rich, savory flavors. The meat falls off the bone with ease, indicating the long, slow-cooking process that infuses it with deep, complex tastes. Each bite is a delightful blend of spices and herbs, typical of Jamaican cuisine, that leaves you craving for more. The oxtails are served with a generous portion of gravy that is perfect for soaking up with the fluffy rice and peas that accompany the dish.
Equally impressive is their cabbage. Sautéed just right, the cabbage is both crisp and tender, providing a refreshing contrast to the rich oxtails. The cabbage is seasoned with a hint of sweetness and a touch of heat, balancing the flavors beautifully. It’s evident that fresh ingredients are used, as the vegetables maintain their vibrant color and natural crunch.
Flavors of Jamaica doesn’t just serve food; it offers an experience. The service is friendly and attentive, making sure that every guest feels like they are part of the family. The passion for authentic Jamaican cooking is evident in every dish, making this restaurant a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the delicious and diverse flavors of the Caribbean.
In conclusion, Flavors of Jamaica excels in delivering a true taste of Jamaica with their mouthwatering oxtails and perfectly seasoned cabbage. It’s a culinary journey that delights the senses and satisfies the soul. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates authentic,...
Read moreSorry, but this place isn't that good (it's mediocre) despite being busy. The rice & "peas" doesn't contain traditional peas at all, rather they are kidney beans (not traditional Jamaican, to my understanding). The jerk sauce is lacking any depth of flavor & has no hint of heat, whatsoever. The (jerk) chicken must be baked bc the skin is soft & it basically has no flavor either. Since the sauce is weak, it doesn't do much in the way of rescuing the bland chicken. The sweet plantains are good, so there's one thing I enjoyed. I prefer the cabbage "salad" cold, not as a hot side (bc, again, it had zero flavor). I'm glad we tried this place, yet I can safely say I wouldn't go back. I honestly don't know why people think this is good, Jamaican style food - it's not even close. To top off the less than ideal experience, it's loud in here & the people serving the food don't help patrons to be able to hear them - they don't speak up, at all. My husband had the brown stew chicken & he liked it, so my 3 stars reflects his opinion, in combo with...
