I have been a customer of Bangkok Sushi since they opened 8 years ago. My family and I frequented the restaurant sometimes twice a week! We were such loyal customers for so many years my family and the owners new each other by first names. I LOVED the food there and have brought many family members and friends there and I have ALWAYS raved about it being my absolutely favorite Thai/Sushi restaurant. I always have gone there for my birthday too! I would be so happy and would tell my family members that I was so happy to see them busy and doing so well. I would say I don't know what I would do if they were no longer in business. Several restaurants in the same strip center have opened and closed through the years but Bangkok Sushi has stayed strong! Well as we are told ALL GOOD THINKS MUST COME TO AN END! I actually feel as though I have broken up with a relationship, I suppose it could be similar since I have been a loyal customer for 8 years now. Here is how it ended. My sister and I went for dinner this evening 5/17/17. It was busy. We waited for a while for our server to take our rorder. I ordered sushi and my sister ordered a Thai entree. My sister's meal arrived almost immediately. I waited and waited and waited and waited for the Sushi to arrive. My sister was about finished with her dinner and my sushi still had not arrived. At that point I went to the owner John and told him that this is our second visit where my sister was done with her entree before I ever received my sushi. I then said I don't even want it now that she is done. He said, "Sorry, so you don't want it?" I said, "No we came to eat dinner together and not watch each other eat our meals separately." Our server comes and asked, "You don't want your sushi?" I said. " I do not, if you want to bring it anyway I will not be paying for it since my sister has finished her meal and I am ready to leave." The server said, "My Bad", saying that she put the entree order in too soon. So when my sister went to pay her bill we stated the situation again to Angie the other owner and she said, "Well you should understand we're busy and sushi takes a long time." I said, "Well then the entree order shouldn't have been put in so soon so we could have received them closer together so we didn't have to watch the other one eat." She says, "I can't do that." Then she said, "We're busy and just because we're busy doesn't mean we give away free food." I did not want free food, I wanted the owners to be more apologetic for the mishap of their server and appreciate the 8 years of patronage my family, friends and I have given them. There were many a times we weren't completely satisfied with our meals, but we didn't say a word. Sad how after that many years TRUE COLORS show. I will be sure to let ALL my family and friends know not to patronize this...
Read moreMy wife and I were in the Cheval area last night and decided to try Bangkok Sushi based on a quick scan of previous reviews. Our first impression on a Saturday night at 6p was the restaurant was very crowded. Overall the restaurant is more welcoming and has a better ambience than most, if not all, Thai restaurants in the Tampa Bay Area. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table to open and there were others piling into the restaurant. Note to self - possibly try Bangkok Sushi on a different night when it isnât so busy. There is a large wait staff and we were promptly visited by a young male waiter after being seated. I was happy to see that they offered a drinkable red win - Simi Cab for $9/glass which is an upgrade from most Thai restaurants. My wife ordered the warm Saki which was also very nice. We ordered a vegan Sushi roll, vegan Green Curry with Veggies, and vegan (no egg) Tofu Pad Thai. The Sushi roll was brought to our table in about 20 minutes. Once comment here on the service - they do not appear to have a team concept and this could be improved. It seems to lead to longer waits for food than necessary. We enjoyed the Sushi roll which was presented very beautifully. We then waited...and waited...and waited. A few times our waiter came by and apologized and ensured us that our main entrees were coming soon. After about 45 minutes we asked our waiter if there was an issue in the kitchen. He said that he was pushing them to get our food ready. He then brought over a complimentary glass of Simi for us to share - that probably prevented me from taking away another star from my review. When the food finally arrived in another 6 or 7 minutes, it was delicious. Overall, I would give the food 5 stars but the kitchen is overwhelmed and needs an efficiency overhaul to be able to handle a full restaurant. Iâm hoping they figure things out because the food and service are excellent. We will give the restaurant another visit if we are...
Read more10/3/21 update - For âscientificâ purposes only we went back for a second time and it was just as good. Our family believes in quality research. We also got even more sushi this time (2nd picture), which was already a 9 out of 10 on the gluttony scale. We were going for a perfect 10 this time. Keep in mind two adults and three kids. Look at the size of a sushi boat we got. Simply lovely. And nuts. We almost ate it all. âââ- Maybe the best chicken fried rice I have had. The sushi was AMAZING. Look at the photo. It was just as good as it looksâŠ.we ordered a lot of sushi, and every single roll was exceptional. The chicken and broccoli as well as steamed pork dumplings were also fantastic. This is our new Asian food/sushi place without a doubt.
The service was fantastic. The whole experience was just great. We just moved down from NJ/NYC area the same day and sushi had to be our first meal as it is our favorite, and the one thing we thought we surely wouldnât be able to replace when moving down here. Thanks to this restaurant...
