The first time my husband & I ate here, we were happy. The second occasion was okay and we had an upcoming event that we wanted to have catered. We had a coupon, so we decided to order food from Dickey’s. Though there was a slot for a coupon on the website, the discount wasn’t taken off. We took the coupon with us when we picked up our order the following day. The associate (I believe Donna) noted the coupon on the receipt. When we got home and unpacked our order, we found that our potato salad was missing. We called, but no answer. Our guests arrived. While we have guests, my husband calls again. And again. He finally gets an answer. My husband was exceptionally nice about the snafu and gave the manager his credit card information. He said he felt like the manager was accusing him of lying about the potato salad. This was a Saturday. By Wednesday, neither the refund for the coupon, nor the refund for the potato salad appeared. I called Donna at 11:00, gave her my husband’s name and credit card info and was assured of a refund and took my address so coupons could be mailed. A week later, no refund and no coupons. I live 15 miles from the location, but I went in personally. I tried their door at 10:56. The door was locked and no hours were posted. I waited a few minutes. At 11:03, I tried the door and it was still locked. According to a google search, they open at 11:00. Nevertheless, I wasn’t going to wait. I ran errands and came back at 12:30. I spoke directly to Donna. She remembered my call and said it probably didn’t go through because she didn’t have the actual card. I assumed she’d zing the card through the register. She took me back to an office where she manually typed in the information. So if there was an issue, it was because she wrote the number down incorrectly. She also mentioned not having the expiration date, which I gave her when I had called previous. And my husband gave when he called. And had been noted on the receipt when we picked up the order and need a coupon adjustment. Then she told me that she wasn’t able to fix it because she hadn’t taken down my phone number. So she didn’t try, because I told her we had a catering order, told her my husband’s name. He has an account through the app. At the very least, she could have dropped a note to the address I gave her. The coupons were never mailed, so they didn’t try. I stood at her shoulder while she entered the credit card number. I saw the screen that said the refund went through. No receipt for the $59 refund. She handed me some coupons. It was all I could do to not throw them in her face. I returned to my car, continued running errands. I gave them to the first stranger I met and shared my story. It took two days for the refund to post, but at least I never have to set foot in that...
Read moreWe have been to other Dickey's restaurants and was excited to see this new one open up.
First of all this is the first Dickies to feature servers and a full bar. We were greeted by the hostess and seated at a booth. Our waitress was soon there to get our drink order. She immediately informed us that the restaurant was still in beta mode until the grand opening.
We ordered sweet tea which can often be bitter and nasty at some restaurants but there's is good. Okay passed the first test. They also have a flavor mix soda machine but without the machine in front of me I feel like I need a mix menu on the table or just order straight Coke products.
Since they were still working on opening I mentioned how the menus are are small and hard to read. She agreed and said that the manager has already discussed that and it was a corporate menu that they put out and wanted to do something about it. Another thing I noticed about the restaurant was it had a dedicated takeout area. Unlike some restaurants were take out is an afterthought and you have to stand around people sitting at their tables awkwardly waiting to pick up your order.
We gave our order and I set my timer 11 minutes later our food arrived.
I got the pulled pork with bbq beans and green beans and the wife got the brisket with fried okra and potato salad.
This of course allowed us cross sampling the each other's plates. This stared a debate I liked the pork better than the brisket Butt the wife preferred the brisket over the pork. I will note however that while the pork was not cold it was not as hot as it could have been. This may be attributed to the dining area being so cold, it was 69 degrees outside and felt warmer.
The bbq beans was good but a little "one note" so I remedied that with adding 1/3 cup of the pork. Boom problem solved. The green beans pushing the limits of pepper but still enjoyable.
We both forgot about the table sauces until the meat was gone. With moist flavorful meat it is unnecessary.
The wife enjoyed the potato salad and was glad it was not drowning in mayonnaise. The fried okra was fresh and crispy and the batter seem familiar and will drive me nuts to figure it out.
Other items of Interest are that it is a spectrum Wi-Fi hotspot for those who have an account. Finally as we were getting ready to leave the waitress who has probably visited our table at least 8 times ( I was being a little intentionally needy just to see what would happen) told us that to keep our cups and get refills on our next visit. This would save my family $10 on every trip that's even better...
Read moreWERE YOU CHARGED A CONVENIENCE FEE AT NEWARK OHIO LOCATION ?
This is for anyone who has purchased food at this location, and received a "Convenience Fee"
I believe that this location is improperly giving out these fees.
I think it's shameful.
There is a difference between a "surcharge" and a "convenience fee"
A convenience fee is used when a person pays in a non traditional manner than the company normally accepts. An example would be a company who normally accepts checks or online payments to charge a "convenience fee" for making a payment by phone.
This fee is a flat fee. NOT a percentage.
A merchant can also NOT charge a convenience fee simply because a card is used.
A "surcharge" is when you are charged a fee for using your credit card. There are many rules when it comes to a merchant charging a surcharge.
The merchant must give written notice to the card companies and processing company telling them that they intend on charging a surcharge.
A surcharge can't be more than what it costs for the processing of the card. These are capped at 3% of the purchase price on Visa Cards and 4% for Mastercard.
A merchant can NOT charge a surcharge on a debit or prepaid card.
There also MUST be a notice at the entrance of the business, and at point of sale, telling you about this surcharge.
It appears to me that Dickeys has decided to charge a fee for everyone who uses a card. That is legal..but only if you follow the rules as stated above.
They are charging every card user a convenience fee. That is incorrect as stated above. That would be a surcharge.
They are charging a percentage. As stated earlier, a convenience fee can't be a percentage.
Even if they decided to just call it a surcharge, it still appears to me that that the percentages are too high, and they're charging every card including debits. My guess is that the card companies have also not been notified since they are calling it a convenience fee. Also, they would have to have the notices stating there is a surcharge.
I am not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice.. but if you have received one of these fees, I would look into it.
Any fee given in error can be reported to your credit...
