Red Plum Warren/Howland Ohio:
Long post but for a VERY GOOD reason please read to the end.
As promised we FINALLY made it for the full dine in experience at Red Plum. Sundays they offer their full weeks specials as the daily special so that meant 1/2 of NY thin and 1/2 Detroit style. I highly recommend calling ahead as they sell out of Detroit style crust by 5pm (more on this at the end of post). Nice little shop I actually expected a bigger dinning area from past posts I've seen but it was plenty spacious at our table. We were notified by our waiter that the Detroit was sold out for the day (it was 5:30pm and they do 100 Detroits roughly a day) so that was a bummer for me however the family ordered a traditional cheese NY Thin and a Greek NY thin the Italian peppers and oil with cheesy garlic bread and 20 wings In Garlic Parmigiano and Louisiana Ranch (which were also on special). The pizza crust is light and crispy foldable with zero flop, the red sauce is mild but still sweet enough to cut through the bite of the cheese. The Greek with its feta cheese and kalamata olives was a wonderful Mediterranean-Italian fusion. The peppers and oil with garlic cheesy bread was fluffy delicious and the peppers were mild and enjoyable. Definitely will be going back to endulge again! Now for the MOST IMPORTANT part of our visit: The Detroit sell out and Manager Alexis Willoughby. So after being told the Detroit style was sold out and me being ornery harrasing our waiter Ron (great young man who took my teasing like a champ) I over hear the manager talking to a couple next to us about selling out of Detroit style. I interject myself into the conversation and ask why the sell out so early. Alexis Willoughby explained it as prep time for dough and having a finite number of specialty Detroit pans (understandable but a bummer). We go on to have a wonderful conversation with the couple next to us and start talking about this fb pizza Lovers page. Alexis stops back to check on us and thats when I find out the nice couple were talking with are her parents and they out me to her as having this page lol (I NEVER let a shop know who we are until the end of our 1st pizza experience in their shop to be fair to them and us). Alexis has seen our page and posts and I tease her abit saying I was going to give her the coveted Pizza Lovers of NE Ohio NW Pennsylvania store window sticker but since no Detroit no sticker lol. Alexis excuses herself as she had a full restraunt and busy staff to tend to(this 23yr old is a dynamo!). Well 10-15minutes later Alexis appears at our table with a Detroit style with cupping pepperoni! It turns out there were 2 Detroit doughs left incase a error was made on a pizza through the evening and she took it upon herself to make sure we had a chance to try it. WOW is all I can say about this level of service and customer care. A non owner that manages with head and heart like this young lady is a rarity in today's food/service industry and I truly hope the owners of Red Plum and the Chophouse know and realize what a absouloute irreplaceable valuable commodity they have in this AMAZING manager! So with that said the Detroit was light and fluffy more so than any previous Detroit I've had, the cupping pepperoni and crust were spot on and the white cheddar added that brick cheese pull and funk I look for in a Detroit pie. So ALL n ALL the pizza is quality but the staff and management are the true gem here and I look forward to seeing them and enjoying their fair again VERY SOON! When you go ask for Alexis and let her know we sent you...and yes she got a Pizza Lovers Sticker for the store so do me a solid and find where they put it and grab a picture with it or better a Pic with your pizza and Alexis! #REDPLUMPIZZA #AlexisWilloughby. A side note for Alexis: please tell your parents Thank you for the dining conversation and we'll see them at...
Read moreThis place was a wonderful place!!! Key word there was, was. With that being said I feel it has definitely gone down hill. The first time we went there about 6 months ago, the staff was attentive, kind, and very helpful. This time I went and I was served the coldest Alfredo I have ever had. I also ordered it with a blackened chicken breast. That was not even hot. After I had asked for it to be heated up, I received something that seemed like they put it in the microwave for 10 minutes, chicken and all. The waited had to be asked to get us refills from us the patrons. And I could understand if these things happen if it was packed, but there was only 4 tables with people at them not including our table of two. It was embarrassing.
On a separate note, their superiors selection is embarrassing for the restaurant that it is. No bourbon, no good vodka’s, and no good rums. The silver lining was they did have one of my favorite beers on tap, but even that was not smooth as I was Miss charged for that and it was charged as a beer that was 5 dollars more expensive per beer and I had two. And with the compounded mistakes there was not even an offer of taking a drink off the tab or anything. It was just not good anymore. That makes me sad because it really was a great...
Read moreThis was our second visit to Red Plum, the first time we only ordered pizza. This visit we sat outside, our server Ron was super friendly, and attentive. We ordered hot peppers with cheesy bread as an appetizer, very good with nice chunks of garlic, we prefer our peppers hotter but great flavor. We ordered the fettuccine carbonara, wow it was tasty, the sauce was perfect. The Detroit motorcity pizza was delicious, sauce was yummy and the toppings were sooooo good. Also ordered the New York bbq chicken pizza, nice amount of toppings and the bbq went perfect with the crust. The thin crust veggie pizza was ok, crust was great but the toppings were a little bland. Last but not least was the veggie calzone, yumminess and huge, a ton of toppings inside, I am ordering this...
