This was my second visit, I came last year with a group of four. I came with twelve other people this time, so I can understand some time delay (about 30-45 mins for food to be ready would be reasonable). We had to wait 1hr 15 mins for food, and some of us ordered very simple meals (Quesadilla's) and some shared meals. We were the second customers there at noon, so it wasn't busy when we arrived. Another group who ordered after us got food first! Another issue was that someone ordered the special, the ribs, (there were only two specials) and twenty minutes after we ordered, the waitress came back to tell him that it wasn't ready! At that time it was peak lunch time and if it really took that long to cook they should have said "specials for dinner only". And why did it take twenty minutes to realize it wasn't ready? We all surmised that there was only one cook which is questionable because the restaurant is one out of three or four restaurants in a bustling vacation town. Our food was an hour late last year and we had significantly fewer people. Another issue was the drinks. The waitress offered us a water pitcher and we asked for coke and tea in pitchers. We assumed the drinks were like free refills;we were saving her time. When we got our bill, they had randomly charged three out of the six orders with seven dollars each for the pitchers. The pictures were half filled with ice so this price was outlandish if we actually intended to buy the pitchers. We talked to the waiter who changed the orders after a talk with the manager. We just wish there was a note that there were no free refills. As for the food, I enjoyed what I ordered. I shared the quesadilla and a serving of fries with my mom, I was full. I found the quesadilla delicious but it's hard to mess up something so difficult. The fries looked and tasted really good. People in my group ordered BBQ and had different opinions. Since this place seems to be known for their meat or at least known for their smoker; I think the meat should be exceptional. All three said that the meat had good flavor, but was very dry (I wouldn't care myself but meat lovers are very particular). One woman got the hamburger and she hated it; hamburgers are really basic and restaurants should have no problem making one that is tasty. On another note, someone ordered the side salad and was blown away by the sun dried tomatoes included. On the menu there was a disclaimer that hamburgers cooked longer than medium would need twenty extra minutes...when that should only take about five to ten extra minutes. The decor was nice, I liked the open garage door front. The historical fact about the tables (from wood from a WW2 boat) was interesting. All in all the service was poor, and the food was generally mediocre for such a long wait. I work in the food service industry so I understand the struggles of the job, but the place was so bad and I can not reasonably side with...
Read moreUnfortunately, we had a less than desirable experience yesterday. I'd like to preface this by saying we don't blame the waitress, as it was severely understaffed.
After visiting Falling Water, we planned on stopping at Falls City Pub after my mother in law researched local places to eat. The restaurant itself is really cool looking, and there was ample parking.
When we arrived inside, there was a group of people in front of us. More people arrived behind us, and it was crammed in the entrance because there was no hostess. No one came over, and it was almost 15 minutes before a waitress- who was visibly overwhelmed- ended up doubling as the hostess. We were never given menus, so my mother in law grabbed a few sitting near the hostess area.
We were finally seated and the waitress suggested a beer to my fiance, only to come back later to say that it was out. No biggie. He ordered the bang bang shrimp, and she said that they were out of bang bang shrimp sauce. No biggie. Then, he ordered the blackened tuna, which showed up with, what appeared to be (and taste exactly like) the bang bang sauce.. My mother in law and I are both vegetarians, and since the menu boasted a decent amount of options that were appealing, I ordered the mac-n-cheese, and she ordered a wrap with portabello. The waitress informed us that the mac-n-cheese sauce was out. When my mother in law ordered her wrap, she was told that they were also out of portabello and the other option she chose, and we were pretty fed up at this point. I ended up ordering off the kids menu, and the grilled cheese wasn't very good, nor was the queso. With such a unique menu, I expected more- even in the kids section. We were very disappointed, because the menu looked really appetizing, and they were out of everything.
The most annoying thing that I witnessed was the bikers who took over a massive table. If you wanted to get drinks, you could bypass waiting for a table and go directly to the bar. We watched a group of guys come in, go to the bar, order drinks, and then go sit at a table. The bar was full, yet people were still standing since they got only drinks and were being respectful of those who were dining in. The guys took it upon themselves to get drinks and take up the entire communal table, when there were people waiting to be seated for food. Had they ordered food, it wouldn't have been rude, but they took up the table to chug their beers and left. No one even said a word to them, either.
Before we left for our trip home, I went to use the bathroom, and guess what? It was out too.
The only thing that saved this review from being a 1 star was the fact that my fiance said his cuban was amazing, and his tuna was okay. Other than that, we had a less than favorable experience, and won't...
Read moreFirst let me just say…been here a few times and the food is very good. Good ribs, wings and sandwiches with great sides. Good beer as well. (Sadly they do not do flights of beer or give samples to try). This review is purely about our experience on Saturday, June 25 at 4pm. We were seated outside at the only available table which had no umbrella. Took about 10 min before waitress came, apologized about the wait and took our drink orders. (We are one of 6 tables outside. 2 waitress working) (bar had 6 people sitting there).
Took another 10 min to get our drinks and we placed our food orders. Over 20min later, said drinks were empty awhile and no waitress had been around to check us. Therefore I went up to the bar and asked if I could place another drink order. The bartender just told me to go sit down and our waitress would get our drinks.
A few minutes later our food came to our table. Halfway through eating the food we still had no waitress come by and no drinks. (It was over 90° outside and we were sitting in the sun).
Therefore I took cash up to the bar, waited my turn for the bartender’s attention and once i had it , asked if I could pay cash for drinks. Bartender just turned away and yells and points for me to go sit down, telling me that he has other people to take care of and That i have a table. (Turns to customers standing behind me and takes their drink order.) When I tried to explain the waitress has not been around and I’m willing to pay cash he just yells that I need to be patient. Than he proceeds to sing the word “patience” in a loud voice to those sitting at his bar, like I’m 3 years old.
So …i Went back to our table, we finished our meal, paid our bill and left. Patience?? …I think we were patient…waited over 30 min for a drink while sitting in the sun. Proactive ?? Tried to pay in cash at the bar but was only mocked and ridiculed for “trying to help ourselves” by the bartender. …Professionalism? Maturity? Understanding? Not this bartender!
Edit..a week after posting this the owner emailed me to apologize and to let me know the bartender had been let go …for reasons in addition to my example above. That was not my intention but It feels like good customer service is the focus...
