The Tuesday Night Supper Club (a Facebook-based group that both my partner of 23 years and I belong to) chose this place as our venue for our Hallowe'en 2017 venue.
WOW. We hadn't been in since San Marcos moved out and this restaurant took its place. The sweeping changes we saw were AMAZEBALLS.
More than half the staff were in costume for the holiday, and each of us in the group was cordially greeted upon entering.
The service throughout the meal was good and consistent, and the food was exceptionally good. (And hey, I'm no huge fan of most Tex-Mex joints. I ain't gonna lie. I mean, I had a really good meal at Azteca's, and everyone else in the group was raving about how much better the restaurant was than it had been while still San Marcos. And believe you me -- the Tuesday Night Supper Club has its fair share of picky little b*tches.) :)
I can strongly recommend the fish tacos, and am looking forward to my next meal there. (I plan to get a coctel de camaron/shrimp cocktail on my next visit.)
The flan here is also OUTSTANDING, as is the torta ahogada. (Imagine a Mexican take on a French dip sandwich -- a sandwich on a ciabatta-type bread that's stuffed with pulled pork and refried beans. OH MAH GAH!)
Clean restrooms, too, by the way, and there's definitively a "spiffed up" dining room interior.
The owner/manager himself wasn't too good to wait on us -- a great sign in any restaurant. (He personally kept our water glasses full throughout the meal -- another very encouraging sign.)
The prices are slightly higher than those that San Marcos had; it's true. (That said, I'd rather pay a little extra for a better meal. EVERY TIME. Period.)
The manager even had Hallowe'en candy for everyone in the club on our way...
Read moreI had to change my review. I've been here about 12 times but this last time will be the last. The time before, I got the ceviche and it tastes like the cheap bottled lime juice was in it, or they didn't get all the soap off the plate before putting food on it. Both mine and my girls plates tasted bad. We both pushed them forward and got a refund after a couple bites.
This next two nights ago.. I orders the diablo shrimp for 14.99. I got like 5 or 6 shrimp and some were tomatoes that looked like shrimp lol and the order says it comes with avocado and on a bed of lettuce. I got rice and beans. I'm not a fan of beans, especially refried. I find it disgusting and I like fresh food. I tried the beans. Tasted old and burnt. Their rice had so much cumin it was near inedible. It's like they have a different cook every night. The diablo shrimp tasted over limey and over peppered in a sauce that looks like the pic suggests, old. Shrimp wasn't fresh and over cooked too, I just wish I got what I ordered. Pic for verification. I wasn't happy with it. I wanted a shrimp dish and I got a side of shrimp with rice and a lot of gross beans.
My girl got a regular chimichanga and said it was bland and mostly all rice inside it. Like you have rice already as a side..anyways, she got sick from it and has been sick for two days. Could be a bug, but I don't have it so we are chocking it up to the steak that was in it.
The michelada was sweet like it was made with coctel sauce. The salsa tasted old, runny, and bland with way too much garlic. Queso was actually decent. The birria is what I usually get here and recommended. Idk it was like the third bad experience in a row. Plus the place is cramped. I'll stick...
Read moreThis is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We asked for additional salsa a couple of and the waitress was leery about giving us any extra salsa. My boyfriend was about half way through his meal. And asked for some more salsa. The waitress said it’s not complimentary. We said okay told her we didn’t need anything else. The owner came over to speak with us. We told her what occurred and explained we would like to just finish our meal and leave. She insisted on continuing to badger us for approximately 5 minutes acting as if we owed her an opportunity to speak to us. Keep in mind she had already explained to us additional salsa was not free and we had accepted this as truth. We then got up and left the rest of our meal on the table as it was clear we would be unable to finish it in peace. She continued to call us rude and disrespectful as we were heading to the counter to pay. We asked her on several occasions to just leave us alone. Finally what I believe was an off duty officer intervened and let us pay for our meal and leave! We will never eat there again nor will our family or friends and this could of all been avoided if the owner didn’t feel so entitled and understood the value of good...
