TL;DR - Received the most overcooked chicken I have ever eaten and was charged $3.00 a glass for ice in my bourbon. The hot fries are pretty darn good though.
Let me start by saying that I really wanted to like this place but... I just don't. I really never leave reviews good or bad and just keep my opinions between my friends and I but after my last experience at Chick N Beer I had to write a review. I went with a group of 7 people plus myself on Sunday September 23rd 2018 for The Office trivia night, we arrived at 3:30pm and it was PACKED! We stood in line for about 5-10 minutes to get our name on the wait list, no big deal as they only had one person seating people and only 3-4 wait staff that I could see. We got our names on the wait list and went outside to wait. We were seated about 20 minutes later again no big deal as we could tell that they were understaffed and doing the best that they could. Our waitress (I don't remember her name but she was great!) brought out waters for the table and took our drink orders, I ordered a bourbon on the rocks (remember that rocks part). She came back about 10 minutes later with our drinks and immediately took another drink order because of how long the orders were taking, we were ready to order food as well so she took that order as well, I ordered 6 traditional spicy Parmesan garlic wings and hot fries. She came back about 5 minutes later with our second round of drinks and all was well. about 15-20 minutes after that she came back with most of our food (one persons order did not get put in), I tasted the hot fries first as I have been to Chick N Beer one other time and got the kimchi fries and was not impressed at all, I thought that they were lacking in flavor quite a bit but the hot fries were packed with flavor (and the only saving grace to my food experience). The wings on the other hand... Were some of the most flavorless/bland wings i have ever had in my life, no spice, no garlic and I could barely taste Parmesan, they were also one of if not the most overcooked pieces of chicken that I have ever eaten in my life (I am an executive chef and know how chicken should be cooked.), this chicken was almost inedible but I decided to just get through it as I know how awful it is to be in the weeds during a service and have an order come back. I ended up have two more glasses of bourbon on the rocks (keep remembering the rocks), we ended our night after trivia and were just chatting when the waitress brought our check out. I thought $77 was bit bit steep for 6 drinks (my wife had 3 drinks as well) and a few wings but whatever. I handed the waitress my card and didn't think too much about it. She brought my card back and it was only then that I looked at the breakdown of what I was charged... remember those "rocks" in my bourbon? $3.00 PER GLASS!!! I can handle paying $6.00 for the burnt beyond being edible wings but paying $3.00 for a freaking glass of ice is absolutely absurd! Why is the ice water free but as soon as you put bourbon in the the ice it becomes magical ice that's worth $3.00 dollars a glass? I could go to any convenience store and buy a 10lb bag of ice for $2.00 so why is it that the people in charge of Chick N beer feel that they can charge an ludicrous amount for ice? I will end this way too long of a review by saying again that I really wanted to like Chick N Beer but just don't, but if you are going to go do yourself a favor and get...
Read moreAfter a tough start to the week, I had a craving for good food and good company. A lovely friend and I finally squeezed in a day/time together and just so happened to discover this decent eatery!
I arrived around 6:20pm and though the host sat me, I decided to take a stroll around the “neighborhood” since my date hadn’t arrived yet. It was a lovely day, probably around 74º, shady skies with just enough sun. I walked around their back-side patio which was fully equipped with artificial turf, jumbo Jenga, plenty of seating picnic tables and had a huge projector screen for any prime-time game. There were also other eateries (outside bar, ice-cream station, and other restaurants) that accessed the same area. It was very inviting! I continued the walk and wrapped around the block to notice that the row of restaurants/bars were all home-themed. It was very college-like. I landed back in my seat and about 5mins later my friend arrived.
We sat at the first two-top high-table near the bar close to the entrance. There were about 2 servers, a host and 2 bartenders to accompany the small crowd. We had a young man as a server and her treated us well. Neither of us had eaten there before so he provided us with a few recommendations but ultimately said, “ya can’t go wrong.” And he was right! We ordered the Crispy Chicken Sliders, Salt & Pepper Fries, Mango Thai Chili and the BBQ Honey Red Curry, both boneless (her suggestion). We chatted for what only seemed like a few minutes before our food arrived. Not going to lie, the appearance of the food wasn’t mind-blowingly irresistible but it’s not the looks that matters most. Normally I stay away from boneless wings because you don’t know how thick the breading will be and the breading-to-sauce ratio is often never quite balanced but I was incredibly impressed at how juicy and proportionate the wings were! They each were a mouthful and tasted wonderfully. Even though they were both great, I think the Mango Chili may have won over the BBQ Curry. The sliders were about what you’d expect, a solid entrée but the bread was the best feature. The fries were as expected as well, very Buffalo Wild Wing -esque (with ranch). Overall, I spent $40 for two and still left with food in-hand, WELL worth it.
We stuck around to watch the ending of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals (Celtics vs Knicks) but really I was too stuffed to do much else. The backside patio is a vibe. It has covered seating, plenty of space and is very pet & child friendly. Establishments like this prove that you don’t have to spend much to eat good and have...
Read moreWe came to watch the Thunder game. We ordered at the beginning of the first quarter and went up four times during the game to check on our food. Each time, we were told it still wasn't ready. After the game ended, I went to the bar and asked the guy with the chin-strap beard for an update. He rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed, and said it still wasn't ready.
Eventually, the manager came over and told us the food had actually been sitting for a couple of hours. She said we could get a refund or have it remade, but it was clear she didn’t want to refund us. When I said I’d rather get a refund, she just stood there like she didn’t expect that and said she’d remake it instead. She told us it would take another 15 minutes, even though we had already waited almost three hours.
She then said she would refund us after they closed. I asked her to do it now, and she said she couldn’t. I asked for her name. After CHEYENNE gave me her name and I walked out, she ran up to us and asked if the phone number on the order was correct. It wasn’t. She got the right number and said we’d get the refund.
It’s been weeks now and still no refund.
I’d honestly be embarrassed if my business ran this way. I was here two weeks earlier for lunch—just me and my coworker in the place—and it still took over an hour to get our food. What are they doing back there? Cheyenne definitely didn’t seem like she was managing the place at all.
Edit: your response screams a lack of accountability. We went up to the bar FOUR times and asked for the food. Nearly 3 hours of waiting that is inexcusable. The man at the bar was extremely rude and when the error was finally realized you offered two options, to either refund us or to remake the food. When we responded we wanted a refund you just stood there in shock. Lastly we didn’t miss your call your bartender put down the wrong number when she ordered the area code was not even an Oklahoma one. We didn’t “miss the phone call” you guys put down the...
