We were treated so phenomenally well the other night at Red Rooster. First impressions were an incredibly welcoming and cozy atmosphere: very unpretentious for a bar, beautifully furnished, well lit, and not too loud (looking at you, Bar Arbolada, love you though). We had the Rooster burger, and the fish and chips. The burger was quite good, though I would say I’ve had better. The ingredients were noticeably high quality, especially the meat and that amazing bun, but personally, I could have used some more sauce, since it was slightly on the drier side, and even though I adore gruyere cheese, I was surprised to find that I could have done without it. Its distinct flavor was cutting through in a way that was almost too noticeable. Minor complaints though. The fish and chips, though, was unbelievable: a delicate breading on top of fish that literally melted in your mouth. Fantastic housemade tartar sauce, with an herb in it that I couldn’t identify but really elevated the flavor. If there’s more perfectly cooked fish out there, I haven’t had it.
What really made the experience so wonderful, though, was the quality of our service. We walked in with no reservation on a Friday night, and to our dismay saw a packed dining room with no open tables. We weren’t too interested in sitting at the bar, so I quickly made a reservation for about an hour later in the evening. When we came back, we were greeted by a woman we’d spoken to earlier, who recognized us and said she was glad we’d been able to make it back. But the person who really amazed us was our server Tilly, who truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to engage with us. She even went out of her way to specially prepare a cocktail for us the way she liked it, and was so incredibly kind every time she passed by. To be honest, it was a level of care that I don’t think I’ve experienced at many restaurants before, if any. As someone who works a customer service job, I truly understand how challenging it can be to look after every single person, especially on a busy evening, but it really felt like our presence in the restaurant was valued. The food was delicious, but ultimately it was the experience Tilly gave us that made our night. This place is a real gem in OKC and I can’t...
Read moreHave heard amazing things about their gluten free items, especially the chicken sandwich and the fish and chips. Finally was able to be in the area when they were open and decided to take the family. We were the only ones there eating at the tables, there were a few guys at the bar but the place was not busy at all.
I informed the person who seated us as well as the woman who was our waitress and the man she had "shadowing" her as she mentioned when she introduced him, that I wanted the gf chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the gf fish and chips so we could try each others. EVERYONE was very much aware I needed gf as I have a severe reaction due to celiac disease. When it arrived, I stupidly assumed they made it gf and took about 3 bites as well as tried my husband's fish before I realized my bun looked the same as the bun on my kid's hamburgers! They didn't bring the fries with my kid's burgers either so we had to ask about that. When he came by the table I asked if he could double check this was gf. He acted annoyed but said he would. I watched as he hung out in the front area before finally making his way to the back. Finally the waitress comes back with the fries for my kids and says, "yeah, sorry, that's actually not gluten free. It's his first day and he put it in the computer wrong!"........I was floored to say the least! The fact that they let a guy put things in the computer on the first day, without double checking him was inexcusable, especially when they were so slow there as it is! She was kind and very sorry, she comped my meal and our drinks but it was still $75.00 for me to be sick for a week! Yes, a week!...
Read moreWe had a poor experience at the Red Rooster on 6/20/2023.
My wife and I were traveling through town were staying at an Airbnb nearby, it was almost 9pm on a Tuesday, so we checked out a couple places online, saw Red Rooster was open until 10pm, thought the place looked like it had a nice atmosphere so we walked over, sat at the bar and got a drink.
We talked for 20-30 min, enjoyed our drinks. When I finished mine I asked for a different drink the bartender recommended but he said "Sorry, we're actually closed now." even though it was around 9:35pm. No last call, no explanation they were closing early.
Overall, annoying, but I get it. I worked service industry jobs, we were the only customers at the bar. Some communication would have been nice, last call, etc. but whatever.
The kicker was, we got the check, were closing out, and while we were there sitting at the bar, 3 of the staff people started making drinks for themselves and drinking right next to us. Just this contrast of being willing to pay for a drink, being told no, they're closed now and then that same guy starts pouring a drink for his coworkers. It just felt like they closed "early" so they could hang out and drink before 10pm when they actually needed to close.
Again, overall I get it. Slow Tuesday, not a lot of customers. We didn't make a big deal of it while we were there. However it was the worst bar experience I've had in a long time, and it was bad enough we never would go back. I'd recommend the owners/managers spend more time training on basic...
