As a supporter of local restaurants, particularly those offering authentic Mexican cuisine, I was eager to try Mariscos. However, my experience there was a mixed bag, with both hits and misses throughout my meal.
To start, I ordered a Michelada, which was quite enjoyable. The drink was well-balanced, refreshing, and a great way to kick off my dining experience. Unfortunately, things took a downward turn when I ordered half a dozen fresh oysters. To my disappointment, they were not fresh at all. If a restaurant is going to have "Mariscos" in their name, I expect top-quality seafood, particularly when it comes to oysters.
Next, I tried the Agua Chile, which was just okay. It lacked the serrano flavor I was hoping for, and it seemed rather plain. To make matters worse, there were two different types of shrimp in the dish, which I found to be an odd combination.
Fortunately, the fried Tilapia managed to redeem the meal somewhat. It was cooked to perfection, with an excellent, crispy exterior and moist, tender flesh. I would definitely recommend this dish to anyone dining at Mariscos.
As for the service, it was attentive and friendly. However, it was clear that the staff were overwhelmed and could have used additional support. Despite their best efforts, it was difficult for them to keep up with the demand.
In conclusion, while Mariscos has potential, they need to focus on the quality of their seafood and ensuring their dishes are consistently flavorful. The fried Tilapia and the Michelada were both highlights of my visit, but the oysters and Agua Chile left much to be desired. Hopefully, with some adjustments, Mariscos can become a local gem for...
Read moreTried out a new place, and although it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t my fave either.
I had the “Mexican Candy” it was a little sweeter than I expected and I couldn’t taste any tequila in it.
I ordered the spicy calamari, only to find out it came bathed in a sauce with onions. Taste-wise it was a 7/10 but I also just wanted some fried calamari so I was still a little disappointed.
I ordered the seafood boil. The shrimp was kind of small compared to any other place that offers a similar meal. There is only one “flavor”. It’s a little spicy, which I like. But if you don’t like spicy, you might try someone else’s lol.
The biggest let down was the “cocktail sauce” it was almost like they diluted it with hot sauce. I could have cried.
I will say, for the price point, you do get a variety of things in the seafood boil for $35 (Sausage does not come with it)
The place is small, and tight! Searing is close together. I think it would be better to go when it’s warm, since they have some outdoor seating as well.
I wouldn’t say I had a bad experience, but it just wasn’t enough for me to come back after...
Read moreI'm from out of state, and friends brought me here. WoW!! As far as I know the ocean is far from KC, but the fish was so fresh tasting.
I had to try several things to get the whole effect.
Ceviche Campechano: the octopus was firm and perfect texture, the scallops were cool and perfect, the fish was well flavored. I love CEVICHE,BUT ITS HARD TO FIND IT WELL PREPARED. THESE GUYS NAILED IT.
I really screwed up, I only ordered one Baja shrimp taco, I wish I had ordered a dozen.
Just to try the opposite, I ordered the Cajun Crawfish. The corn was a bit funky but the crawdads, were spot on.
Best if all was the service. Juan got the food out fast and well plated
Jenny was super helpful and friendly, not to mention very beautiful. She took time to visit with my friend's 9 year old and converse with him in Spanish, or at least his version of learning Spanish.
The place is very clean, and a fun environment. Excellent mural on the wall as well.
I live to enjoy and discover new and hidden restaurants, this is where you find the best foods.
Mariscos KC is true to this therory. 5 stars just...
