Not a pleasant dining experience at all. I wanted country fried steak but did not want chain food. My husband ordered the club sandwich w/ fries & water. I ordered country fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn for $10.79! Wow! That's pretty over priced for a diner. The only other vegetable choice was cole slaw And you also get a soggy microwaved roll for this price, no salad. My plate came out with a hot country fried steak, room temp corn, COLD masked potatoes and gravy. I peppered the corn and tried the potatoes. Refrigerator cold! The waitress takes my plate, I can hear the cook in angry. I am across the restaurant and I could hear the microwave open & slam shut, I hear the beeps & the microwave open & slam shut again. I hear my plate of microwaved food slammed down in the pass thru. I'm already angry. I honestly could not believe they think I'm that stupid. Like I don't know you just microwaved what is supposed to be a $10.79 meal! No. Take it back. No, I do not want to order anything else. Why would I after that. I'll just drink my Dr. Pepper & eat my soggy dinner roll with margarine while my husband eats the most pathetic looking so called club sandwich I've ever seen. I will microwave something to eat when I get home. Not pay $10.79 for microwaved food. These people don't even know how to take something off a ticket nor do they know how to handle this. I'm still not sure how but we still ended up paying $13 & some change for a sandwich, fries, one diner roll & one soda. The last time I spent that much on one meal, it was worth it. And please come back & see us?! Why? I can buy a frozen microwave country fried steak dinner for under $5. Thanks but no thanks. Still can't believe we had to pay for 1 glass of Dr. Pepper. I had to leave 1 star but in my...

So my wife and I took my mom here for her birthday today. First time here. Thought a family diner would be nice for breakfast or lunch. Wish I would have read the review down below about the person that just got done voting for the first time and the gentleman behind the counter basically said he was a liberal because of his comments about Trump. Anyways place was busy at lunch time. We got seated in a timely matter. Waitress was nice and tentative. We got chk fried steak, chk fried chk and I got a kc strip. All meals came with eggs and toast. After receiving my check I was a little taken back on how they charged .50 cents extra per egg “egg flation”they called it and $1 extra for 2 pieces of bread even though it was supposed to be included in the price of the whole meal. The waitress didn’t let us know about the extra charge for eggs or toast is what took me back. Also there was a 3% charge if you used a credit card to pay for it:( As for the food it was ok and like the other review portions were not what you pd for. So basically $20/person for breakfast/lunch. Unfortunately I will never go back or suggest this place to anyone and it’s not because...

Terrible experience! I was on my way to Houston and stop here. I hate McDonald fast foods, so I thought that this would be a good Mom/Pop place.

1)The service was slow, there were only about 3 other people. 2) The food took a long time to arrive 3)The food was cold and not at all appetizing. 4) When I went to pay the cashier asked how the food was, I asked her if she wanted the truth, she said yes. I told her about the cold food etc. She then asked if I wanted to talk to the manager. 5) I said no, I just wanted to pay and be on my way. 6) She got the manager, who then started yelling at me and accusing me of trying to get free food. This after I had paid and was near the door with my family ready to leave. He kept yelling at my family, I was like "Your food was terrible, fix it." I go drive to Houston all the time and thought I had found a place to rest, I was wrong. He them got on the phone and started talking to someone about us. I COULD NOT LEAVE FAST ENOUGH He followed us to the parking lot glaring at us the whole time, yelling at us and to someone on the phone.

NEVER AGAIN would I go...

We enjoyed our experience at Old 56 Family Restaurant. Everyone was very friendly and the restaurant was decorated nicely. My spouse and I both had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. I also had their mixed vegetables. The food had a good flavor but the mixed vegetables did seem very fresh. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. The chicken fried steak was not as crispy as I usually like it and I am not convinced that is was homemade. This is a dress casual restaurant. The food was not bad but did not seem like a scratch kitchen. This restaurant had recently reopened after being closed due to the pandemic.

A little crowded but I was seated quickly. Breakfast items and service were good although due to the crowd there for Sunday breakfast/lunch there was a bit of a wait to order and then receive my order. This is a diner and home style atmosphere which I like. I'll be back. Update: came for breakfast but ending up trying their Thursday lunch special, which is pot roast. In a word: don't. Meat was bland in taste and didn't bring to mind a quality roast. I should have stuck with the breakfast. Update: Tried the cheeseburger and fries. Another thumbs down. Stick with the breakfast which is at least in the good category.
