Papa Johns Pizza — Restaurant in Olathe

I ordered pickup from this Papa John’s and my experience was unbelievably bad from start to finish. I’ve been a frequent delivery/pickup customer for years, but I will not be back to this location.

First, the order wait time was consistently terrible. The pickup window said 10–15 minutes; it took about 30 minutes every time I visited recently. The store clearly struggles with staffing and organization — orders were lost or mixed up multiple times, phones often went unanswered, and the staff seemed overwhelmed and untrained. That alone is frustrating, but what happened next made it intolerable.

When DoorDash drivers (and customers) politely asked about missing items or late orders, the manager on duty responded rudely and aggressively. I personally witnessed the manager raise their voice at a driver and accuse them of “not knowing how to pick up” — while the driver was calm and professional. On another visit, a worker barked at a customer for asking a simple question about their pizza and made the customer feel humiliated in front of others. I felt unsafe and embarrassed watching it happen.

There are two serious problems here: poor operations and bad leadership. Staff shortages are only one part of the issue — there’s also a clear lack of basic customer service training and a manager who uses hostility rather than problem-solving when things go wrong. If you rely on timely pickups or delivery via DoorDash, plan extra time or consider choosing a different location. I will not recommend this store to anyone. I placed an order Aug 11 at 530pm for delivery. I didn't receive it until after 8pm.

I go and place an order today (Aug 23) for delivery, but place it ahead of time to ensure that it's made/delivered in a timely manner. I placed an order online at 430pm for a 630pm estimated delivery.

Called the store at 7pm to inquire if my order was forgotten and told by Zachary that he'll start making it ASAP. By 730pm the store hasn't even started making the order via tracker.

I called customer service and asked for assistance in this issue, they called the store and Zachary informed them it's due to lack of delivery drivers. That's fair enough, but my issue is I placed an order online 2hrs ahead of estimated delivery (when I wanted it) with the sole purpose of the store being able to schedule making and getting the order to me sometime around 630pm. I understand that delays happen, but it's unacceptable to not even have started an order when it was placed 2 hrs ahead of time (3 hrs at time of this review).

Order finally showed up at 8:40pm via Door dash and it was missing 1 item, a 2 liter MT Dew. I ordered Large Pizza, Wings, and 2 liter. Over 4 hours from order being placed, over 2 hours late from requested delivery time, and still couldn't get the order correct with all items. They can blame this on doordash, but they're the ones using doordash not me. They need to ensure that Doordash has all items handed to them at time of pickup. The fault lies with Papa Johns.

I feel compelled to review this location since my experience does not match the overall rating on Google Maps. While older ratings were appropriate for their time, the current state of this store is above the 3.6 on Google Maps. My experience with this location was worth a 5 star rating.

Pros: The staff were quick to welcome me into their store. I collected my order in under a minute. One of the staff coming inside held the door open for me and wished me a good day. (Above and beyond) All of the staff I met seemed to be in good spirits. In contrast, my experience is typically that people in a chain restaurant are not enjoying their working situation. The food looked very similar to what I would see on the website when ordering. Order was correct Food temperature was hot, from the oven. The portion of ingredients seemed reasonable, nothing skimped. The quality of this food left a better impression on me than large competing pizza chains.

Cons: To be honest I do not have any critiques.
