My wife and I were in the Old Bridge area and looking to eat lunch somewhere nearby. So I Googled "Sandwiches near me" and to our good fortune, Irving's Pastrami House came up. The menu and photos on its website were enough to making me start drooling. Once we arrived there, we were pleasantly greeted by Maria who acquainted us with the menu. The place was very clean and had an inviting atmosphere.
Irving himself also happened to be there at the time and was happy to explain why his meats are a cut above the rest -- no pun intended -- and how he strives to ensure that everything thing that he sells is made of the finest quality ingredients.
Well, he didn't get any argument from us. We ordered two "regular" sandwiches (pastrami and brisket) that were each filled with 8 oz. of meat versus 5 oz. in the "junior" versions. Each order came on delicious rye bread accompanied by a tasty pickle and some savory cole slaw. We asked for deli mustard on the pastrami while the brisket came with a side of an au jus type gravy for dipping into. When it comes to pastrami and brisket, these two sandwiches were among the best we've ever had.
My wife and I shared each sandwich and we were both wowed by how delicious they were. After the first few bites, we gave two thumbs up to Irving who got the same reaction from other patrons as well.
Additionally, we bought some items to take home for dinner: chicken pot pies, latkes, and a knish. All were very good.
I'm not one who routinely rate eateries and restaurants online, but I'm doing it for Irving's Pastrami House because it deserves the praise. Kudos to Irving...
Read moreAfter seeing so many great reviews I decided to give this place a try and I’m so glad that I did because everything was top notch!! My husband ordered a pastrami sandwich and I had my favorite - the Reuben. I have to say both meats were so tender and flavorful. The owner and staff were so nice too and allowed us to sample the meat before ordering. That was a really nice touch and showed just how much they care. I definitely have to disagree with a couple other people who posted that the corn beef was tough or chewy. As for Bonnie stating her pit bull would have a hard time eating it. All I have to say is WOW you must be one very disgruntled lady or maybe a friend of a local competitor because this meat was nothing near tough or chewy!! To conclude, we will definitely be back soon and to everyone else who hasn’t tried it out yet, I highly recommend that you do!! Wishing all the best of luck to the owner, happy to have...
Read moreAs much as I don’t want to agree with Mr. Bruno, I was extremely disappointed in my sandwich. If I could give half a star, I would. I ordered a Reuben ( my most favorite sandwich ever) and ,Much to my dismay, it was exceptionally chewy. Maybe there should have been an option to ask me how I wanted the meat sliced. But I was not asked. I picked through the remaining rest of the sandwich and it was all the same. I could NOT chew it. As a matter of fact, my pit bull would have had a hard time eating this. The girl at the counter was sweet and personable. I had such high hopes for this place as it’s close to home. I don’t think I’d return. As a suggestion, maybe moving forward you should ask customers how they’d like their corned beef etc sliced. With that being said, I’ll make the drive to Harold’s in Edison...
