My friends and I are regulars at Shaker & Peel, often visiting at least once a week, if not more. What keeps us coming back are the incredible rotating specials that always keep the menu exciting and fresh. The variety of options on the menu is impressive, but it's the specials that truly steal the show. From delicious food to tasty drink specials, Shaker & Peel never fails to impress.
The vibe at Shaker & Peel is another highlight. It strikes the perfect balance between fun and casual while still feeling elevated. It's a great spot for groups and families, and we always have a fantastic time whenever we visit, which is kind of an embarrassing amount.
When I say we are here weekly, I am not kidding - S&P is the first place I recommend when someone asks me where to go in the Tampa Bay area so obviously I made sure to vote for them for Yelp's top 100 and I'm so glad they were voted in!! Not only is the food amazing - shout out to Alex on the line, the customer service is exceptional, with staff members like Bailey, Mallory, Chase, and Jake going above and beyond to make us feel welcome week after week. Their attentiveness and friendliness add to the overall wonderful experience - you guys ROCK!
While I'm not a fan of super spicy food, there are plenty of options on the menu that I love. The un-beet-able app is my personal favorite, along with the queso fundido and smashed avocados. Taco-wise, the flower power is a standout (meat-eaters, I promise you will not miss it!) and the simple chicken taco is anything but simple! Kobe cheeseburger, another hit - every time and if you are looking for a delicious salad, go for the chicken halfacado cobb - the dressing is so unique and the beet infused egg is perfect.
The specials, however, are the real stars of the show. Some end up becoming permanent menu items, while others are fleeting delights that keep us coming back for more - once 3 days in a row in fact. I'm eagerly awaiting the return of favorites like the chili verde pork stew, chile relleno burrito, birria ramen, and the smashed peas with burrata. However, nothing beats the memory of the bbq pork belly fried rice, which remains my all-time favorite special.
To top it all off, the revolving variations of churros are a delightful treat that shouldn't be missed and are great for sharing. The current flavor tastes like strawberry shortcake, making it a perfect ending to a fantastic meal.
Overall, Shaker & Peel is a must-visit in the Tampa Bay area. The food is amazing, the drinks are delicious, and the customer service is top-notch. It's no wonder I always recommend it to friends and...
Read moreWonderful food, excellent service, and a pleasant atmosphere. What else can one ask for? Though the other items on the menu, like the delicious salads they offer, are a treat themselves, it's really the tacos that make this restaurant stand out. Vegetarians will be particularly pleased. As of writing this review, the 'flower power' tacos are among the best vegetarian options in the area. A word of warning though: The tacos are smaller than some might be used to. Be sure to order more than you think you'll eat! The desserts are, like the tacos, small in size, but the restaurant has certainly succeeded in emphasizing quality over quantity. Personally, I suggest the vanilla bean creme brulee to finish off one's visit.
Edit 2021-10-06: Three vaccines and many months later, I chose to revisit Shaker & Peel. While many other restaurants have been forced to cut corners due to the tragically ongoing pandemic, this one has managed to maintain its wonderful atmosphere and, more importantly, its high quality food.
I would like to emphasize that vegetarians will find plenty to love here. Though only one taco on their current menu is listed as vegetarian, they were happy to accommodate me when I asked if some of the others could be made without meat. They substituted with other ingredients and the results did not disappoint. Pictured in this review is a neat row of five different types of taco, all of them vegetarian and all of them delicious.
There is no doubt in my mind that Shaker & Peel continues to be deserving of...
Read moreCame here with some great friends for a week-night meal- they had been here before and suggested the place but it was my first time. We were seated and it seemed like maybe we got the wrong server because after Amber took our drink orders a man came over to take our drink orders but Amber continued to be our server? Unsure what happened with that. After looking over the menu, my friends and I split the Chi Town egg rolls for an appetizer (very good, the mustard-based dipping sauce had a small kick to it that I enjoyed). Then we ordered drinks. My friends got a margarita flight to split and I ordered the Comfortably Numb. However, I didn't get the Comfortably Numb (was brought a different drink) and we let another server know, and she fixed this for us and even let us keep the wrong drink (none of us liked it, but it was a great gesture). Then I ordered 2 flower power tacos and a side of street corn (my friends also ordered flower power tacos and street corn) The tacos were DELICIOUS and vegan. The tortilla was safe for my allergies too! I was actually too full to eat my 2nd taco so I gave it to one of my friends (thankfully she had room!) The food was definitely worth the 30 minute drive. When we were ready to pay, I was paying separately than my friends, but there were a few receipt mix-ups we had to fix. Amber did fix our receipts so we were each paying for the correct items. Overall, the experience wasn't bad. I had a great time out with my friends and would probably try it again if the...
