I will miss the "Sear Shack", I liked their fresh made buns and good burgers. I am told they closed in the whole Memphis area (?) These times are hard on Restaurants, especially for the very crowded field of Burger Joints. In Olive Branch, their location was just picked up by "Two Crazy Fellas", opened a few weeks ago which received good reviews so far; had to try it! This is a Cajun-Style Seafood place, with deep Louisiana roots, born from the success story of Food Truck experience. They remodeled the place, and set it up for casual full service. It's sober decor and neutral theme doesn't favor Cajun, but here, it's all in the plate. Service is friendly and sincere, in the family, but with pricing above what you would expect for casual dining, it fell somewhat short of full service expectations. More experience and a bit of guidance will I am sure grow service in confidence and efficiency. The menu is as expected for such a theme, but immediately you notice that prices are more at the level of upscale settings ($15 for Shrimp and Fries, $8 for a cup of Gumbo). See pic of menu. We came after Church Sunday and within minutes, not one table was left opened in that small restaurant. They offer wine and beer but we passed. My wife ordered the Shrimp and Fries and I went for the combo Shrimp/Fried Oysters and Fries for $2 more. Long wait, too long but understandably typical for a new restaurant invaded by the after-church crowd. While we waited, we had a friendly chat with the owners (love the accent) and a bit of history lesson on their background. Food came in hot and looking good but no efforts in presentation and kind of lost in this good size tray. It was hot and tasty. Having lived in New Orleans, I can attest of that authentic flavor at the right spiciness. The four Oysters were excellent, the Shrimp as well even though a tad overcooked. Yes, I become a bit more demanding when I am having a $54 lunch (tip included) for two. Once finished with my satisfying dish, I decided to splurge and ordered a cup of Gumbo, the ultimate "test" for any Louisiana-Cuisine Restaurant. This is a Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, with no Seafood. Again, the authentic flavors and texture confirm Cajun Cooking experience in the Kitchen. Still questioning the $8 price, too close to my lunch budget to come often, and not enough food. Also, they should consider offering the Seafood version with Mud-Bugs, my favorite. We will be back, but not often at that price. Glad they are enjoying the typical new Restaurant rush but I would worry about long term traffic and sustainability at...
Read moreIn the words of Tyra Banks âWe were rooting for you! We were all rooting for youââŚ.such a disappointment. Iâve been wanting to check out this place for a while so I took my daughter Sunday. I will say it has a really nice atmosphere. The tables are pretty spaced so youâre not sitting on top of each other & the pricing is pretty decent. Now letâs get to the service. Our waitress was nice. Definitely did what she could & was attentive. However, there was one point when our waitress was in the back & I was trying to get attention of the other workers. The young man at the counter looked my way twice & said nothing & did nothing. In fact all he did was laugh as if he didnât see me or didnât want to be bothered. Finally when I said âexcuse meâ loud enough one of the young ladies came to the table. I was only calling them to the table due to the bleeding wings that were sitting in front of me. On to the next issue. Our appetizer which was the wings came out with our food. The appetizer was piping hot but the food was Luke warm. My daughter had nachos & im not sure how the nachos could be warm & cold at the same time. I told her they may have been sitting & that one of the sauces used may have possibly been cold. BUT we didnât complain about them. She ate them against her better judgement. Also they come on really thin chips. They almost remind me of a bag of lays. Now my dish the Cajun shrimp was good. But again if you serve shrimp in a mini cast iron skillet I expect a little sizzle or just some type of heat. The shrimp while flavorful was Luke warm which made me think theyâd been sitting for a while. The Cajun cabbage was by far the best part of my meal. I would definitely recommend trying that if you like spicy cabbage. Now back to these wings & this is also where our waitress messed up. The wing sauce was good. I actually had the opportunity to try half a wing before we noticed the blood. When the waitress brought the wings back to the table theyâd clearly just re-dropped the ones we sent back. Please see my pics to see why this was so upsetting. The wings went from looking absolutely delicious to looking like a scene from the walking dead. I had such high hopes for this place. Definitely a...
Read moreI wanted to like this place. What really did it for me was the waitress. She was an older lady w dark brown/black hair. She wasnât friendly, could tell she was overly stressed⌠gave us way too many packs of crayons and straws, kinda throwing handfuls on the table⌠totally unnecessary. Had to ask for refills and our receipt after waiting more than a reasonable amount of time for it to be addressed. I also accidentally spilled my water so I asked for napkins, she brings me a dirty rag to clean it up with and never came back to get it off our table or give me a new drink (I threw all my ice that fell out back in the cup). She did apologize when we left because they were âshort staffedâ but honestly thatâs not my fault or problem. I figured she can get away w it because itâs family owned. Iâm paying HIGH dollar for this place and I expect the customer service to reflect that too.
we did have a young girl that was helping at our table, sheâs the one who took our order and she was so sweet and kind!
On to the food. Did Not personally enjoy boudin balls (although my family did). As for my entree⌠I ordered the fried shrimp poboy with fries. They brought me potato salad, not too big of a deal⌠they fixed it quick⌠BUT fries were over cooked-most of them had no potato inside. THEN I see I have the peacemaker poboy but I figured âoh wellâ and didnât want to spend more time for that fix. Idk if this part of the review is fair but the fried oyster was soggy/melty, I couldâve been sick. Definitely not my thing! I just picked them off and ate my shrimp⌠that was about a 3/10 considering I got the wrong sandwich.
My kids fries were also overcooked so I guess it was the whole batch. I did try a bite of shrimp and grits and that was a 10/10 so definitely give that a try.
I canât say if Iâll be back or if I recommend. Iâm one of very few negative experiences so I guess youâd have to try it...
